Non-conference game. Summary: Won Big 16 Conference title for sec- on season with 13 wins and four losses . . . . caused fans consternation by losing to Ana- conda in next to last game of conference season, but Butte faltered and Spartans dumped Gallatin by 38 to 24 score .... won Northern Division Tournament hands down, averaging more than 22 points per game more than opponents .... lost first game in State Tournament to Butte by three points defeated Corvallis easily .... then lost a close one to Helena, a team they had beaten by 28 points in division tournament .... Cap- tain Clawson given all-state berth for second season .... following make letters: Clawson Dick Jesse, Bill Jesse, Bob Helding, John Held- ing, Glen Hinton, Norman Guettler, Tom Nash, Dave Haines, Eddie Ghirardo, Jack Reidy, Dick Pew .... seven lettermen return- ing to play in new gym next year. B Squad The 1941-42 B suqad was not so smooth as the squad of the year before, but came along pretty fast at the end of the season. They de- feated some B teams that were outstanding in their districts. There will be several good men back to replace our graduating seniors. — Chinske. C Squad The purpose of the C squad is to give bas- ketball fundamentals to freshmen and sopho- mores who might become varsity material later on. —Buzzetti. Jesse, Llewellyn, Pew, Roedl, Scott, Streit, Tremper, Wulle, and Manager Buster Ob- linger .... Bill Jesse and Albie Cote picked as co-captains for next year. The B Squad was big and showed many good prospects for next year's varsity. —Buzzetti. Season Stevens ville drops two to the B's . . . . there 7 to 13 ... . here 0 to 13 .... J. Helding, O'Laughlin, Ghirardo lead attack in first en- counter .... O'Laughlin gallops 19 yards to score in second meeting .... Bill Lee returns punt 68 yards .... on next play Kirkemo slashes through to score. Corvallis downs B's in overtime mix 20 to 14 .... Blue Devils' flashy Don Edwards breaks away for long gains. Helding crashes over for Missoula counter. Summary: three wins and two losses. The freshman boys are better than they have ever been before. If they keep plugging, we are going to have a real team coming. —Miller. Season C Squad .... made up of freshmen .... no outside games .... prepares men for future B squad and varsity material .... several moved up to B squad during season. -----★ BASKETBALL The 1941-42 varsity basketball team was the most successful in winning championships we have had in the past eight years, winning two out of three championships, the conference and the Northern Division and missing only the state title. We hope to be able to do the same or better next year. —Eddie Chinske. Clara Marsh McCleod and Orman Mace chosen best actor and actress in the Little Theater Festival . . . . the Konah given all-state rating for third consecutive year by the Montana Interscho- lastic Editorial Association .... Scharlene Wil- lis second in dramatic division of National Forensic League declamation contest . . . . Tannisse Brown third in humorous .... Don Dobson first in extemporaneous speaking. Girls' Athletic Association is an all-girls' organization interested in sports .... has about 150 active members . . . . officers are: Betty Ruth Carruthers, president; Evelyn Cherry, vice-president, and Ann Rob- bins, secretary-treasurer .... held annual play- day May 2 ... . schools from all over district invited .... approximately 80 girls attended . . . . managers who conducted all-school tour- naments for girls were: Verda Verhonik, bad- minton; Gen Worden and Barbara Bishop, basketball; Janet and Mildred Noyes, volley- ball ....
