Harris, dramatics instructor. ★ Ever Since Eve was the junior production dramatizing high school life .... was directed by Miss Mary V. Harris .... featured Gene Shaw, junior, as Johnny, in the role of an editor of a high school paper, The Penquin .... took up the age-long quarrel of male domination, bringing argument mixed with comedy .... provided plenty of laughs through Spud Erwin, Johnny's pal who believes he is irresistible to women, played by Don Harkins—presented girlish high school charm in the roles of Susan Blake, flame of Johnny, and Lucybelle Lee, Southern belle . . . . was enjoyed by old and young alike. ★ Stage Door Thespian spring production .... featured an unusually large cast of 32 ... . leading roles in this story of life in a boarding house for girls on the stage taken by Marsh McLeod, David Bates, Carl Hysen, Marion Peters, Shirley Ea- heart .... directed by Miss Mary V. Harris . . . . theme centered on Hollywood versus Broadway idea .... brittle dialogue, clever gags, moving climaxes made Stage Door a play to be long remembered in MHS. ★ The Enchanted Cottage a 40-minute cutting from a play of that name by Arthur Wing Pinero .... presented as Mis- soula high's entry in the Little Theater Festival at the Montana Interscholastic Track and Field Meet .... shown to an invited audience May 12 in the high school auditorium .... a fantasy involving an embittered, crippled soldier who marries a plain little spinster to escaped his un- sympathetic friends and parents .... speaking parts taken by Gasper Cornell, Marsh Mc- Cleod, Bill Rock, Tannisse Brown, Marjorie Powell, George Skrivseth, Orman Mace. ★ Christmas Cantata preserved the traditional Christmas solemni- ty at MHS .... sponsored by music and drama departments with afternoon and evening per- formances .... combined Boys' and Girls' Glee Clubs furnished music under Miss Kathryne Borg's direction .... Miss Mary V. Harris, drama instructor, directed the tableaux . . . . students pantomined Mary, Joseph, angels, inn- keeper, shepherds, wisemen, and the Angel Gabriel in presentation behind an illusion cur- tain .... varied lighting effects and robed sing- ers carrying candles added to the impressive- ness of the program. ★ Music Boys' Glee Club, Girls' Glee Club, A Cappella Choir present numerous concerts during year . . . . glee clubs under direction of Miss Kathryne Borg .... combined they form the A Cappella Choir under Emmet Anderson .... glee clubs appear in Christmas cantata .... all three re- ceived top honors in district music meet and state festival .... sing for Commencement and Baccalaureate. 26

Girls' Sextet is accompanied and directed by Miss Kath- ryne Borg .... sings for various public and school gatherings such as Mother's Day Tea, Commencement, declamation finals .... first semester group consisted of Mary Lou Minty, Susie Jones, Eleanor Dahlberg, Jo McIntyre, Doris Haines, Pat Mills .... second semesier, Mary Lou Minty, Susie Jones, Eleanor Dahl- berg, Jo McIntyre, Doris Haines, Jean Fitz- simmons .... received first division rating at State Solo and Small Ensemble Music Festival in April, thereby qualifying to enter North- west Regional Musical Festival at Spokane in May .... received first division rating there. ★ Boys' Quartet directed and accompanied by Miss Kathryne Borg .... composed of A1 Small, Vernon Alf, Archie Olsen, Bill Wilson .... sings for school programs and organizations and at various clubs and gatherings around town .... re- ceived second division, or excellent, rating at State Solo and Small Ensemble Music Fes- tival. ★ Cadet Band better known to MHS students than most other school musical organizations because it marches and plays at football games and parades .... is under the direction of Emmet Anderson, Missoula high music instructor . . . . helped sell tags to finance a trip to Helena for the Bengal-Spartan football game .... member- ship absorbed by the Symphonic Band and the Beginners' Band during second semester. ★ Symphonic Band is directed by Emmet Anderson .... most advanced band of MHS .... composed of stu- dents who have worked up from Beginners' Band to intermediate or Cadet Band and thence to Symphonic Band .... helps the Cadet Band by playing and marching with them at foot- ball games and parades .... gave three con certs this year .... traveled to Helena for the Helena-Missoula football game .... received first division rating in the state music festival again this year. Beginners Band learns to play musical instruments .... is taught and helped by Emmet Anderson .... prepares to become Symphonic Band of next year. ★ Orchestra while more in background than other music groups, has many and varied activities in realms of symphonic and classical music . . . . presented four concerts during past season, one appearance for each quarter, fall, mid- winter, and spring .... made a special public appearance during music week May 3-10 ... . has an honor group of ten selected by Direc- tor Emmet Anderson who play overtures and curtain raisers for all Thespian productions .... proved its abilities to more publicized music organizations by winning second division rat- ings for selections played during the spring music festival here. ★ Dance Orchestra organized two years ago .... plays for most school dances .... members are Jim Raymer, Harold Herbig, Ralph Hartse, Jimmy Thomp- son, Bayliss Cummings, Russell Lukens. ★ Saxophone Quartet consists of Jimmy Thompson, Pauline Parsell, Ralph Hartse, Jean Hemingway .... plays for small gatherings .... received second division rating in State Solo and Small Ensemble Music Festival. ★ Woodwind Quintet is considered one of best among solo musical groups of Missoula high .... consists of Mar- jorie Waltermire, flute; Ralph Hartse, clarinet; Bayliss Cummings, bassoon; James Abbey, French horn; Harold Herbig, oboe .... makes public appearances before service clubs, church organizations, etc. . . . received excel- lent rating in State Solo and Small Ensemble Music Festival. 27
