News Editor, Dorothy Jeanne Kinnick. ★ Konah Airwaves continued its service to Missoula County high through the medium of broadcasting .... inter- viewed officers from various clubs, thus giving general public picture of extra curricular activ- ities .... program director and announcer, A1 Grose, introduced new method of selecting commentators, choosing them at random . . . . staff consists of director, writers, typists, com- mentators, and adviser, John A. Linn .... went on bi-weekly basis at end of season. ★ Kopee is MHS literary magazine—founded in 1936 by Miss lone Lake, former journalism instructor . . . . revived by Quill and Scroll April, 1941, after a long absence .... first semester issue this year published in December .... this staff led by following: senior editor, Ruth Mittel- staedt; art editor, Barbara Ward; make-up ed- itor, Dorothy Jean Kinnick; and business man- ager, Bill Barnett .... other staff members were Dick McEwen, Virginia Woods, Bob Bennett, Eugene Cottrell, Jean Hayhurst, Clarence Hill, Marjorie Janes, Jack Kern, Shull Lemire, Jack Poteet, Willard Ranstrom, Glen Schauer, Robert D. The Bitter Root organized for a regular issue in September .... sold 963 copies in drive .... patriotic stu- dents of MHS decided to take dollar refunds in defense stamps after war was declared .... a wartime issue was decided upon in late April .... publication of this abbreviated version as- sured when nearly 600 students subscribe .... suffers set back when editors take job down town .... Quill and Scroll Society drafted to complete write-ups .... Marjorie Powell, draft- ed to edit write-ups, works during Interscholas- tic to complete job ... . second set-back when sports editor breaks down under strain . . . . Bill Free comes through in masterly fashion as sports editor in crisis. ★ Choric Speaking Group meets every Monday after school .... open to juniors and seniors .... offers valuable training in group recitation .... appeared in program at Methodist Church .... was fea- tured in patriotic assembly February 20 ... . made its second annual appearance over KG VO .... demonstrated before meeting of Western Montana English teachers at the uni- versity .... Miss Helen Fink, sponsor. ★ Dramatics Thespians is honorary MHS dramatics society .... to become a member one must earn 25 points through work on high school productions . . . . sponsored spring and fall plays .... Christmas Cantata .... Little Theater play .... is guided and advised by Miss Mary V. Harris .... meets every other Tuesday in room 117.... members wear black sweaters with black and red em- blem .... gave informal indoor picnic for fall initiation .... donned formals for spring initia- tion dinner .... was led through year by Presi- dent Shirley Eaheart, vice-President Dick Forbis, Secretary Miriam Moody. ★ Stage Crew is headed by Co-Stage Managers Russell Dean and Don Branson .... boys keep the stage clean .... build and put up sets .... 24

handle curtains, staging, and lighting for plays, assemblies, and meetings of organizations which use the stage .... each is assigned a special job during plays .... work on crews helps earn Thespian points .... working with co-managers are Hardy Haight, Jim Raymer, Milton Calloway, Bob Johnson, Jim Maloney, Jim Anderson, Frank Fisher, Kenneth Dean, Dave Line, and George Skrivseth. ★ Peg O' My Heart as opening production of the season was one of the greatest successes of MHS drama depart- ment .... contributed a good story with plenty of laughs and a strong love interest .... great- est thrill found in performance of Marsh Mc- Leod, polished actress who portrayed a impish little Irish girl, misunderstood and mistreated . . . . taken away from her real home to stay with relatives, she becomes a lady and finds herself in love .... outstanding in their char- acterizations were Shirley Eaheart as Peg's self- centered cousin and Bill McDonald as an af- fected young Englishman .... added zest was given by the canine actors Bootsie and All- spice .... directed by Miss Mary V. Harris, dramatics instructor. ★ Ever Since Eve was the junior production dramatizing high school life .... was directed by Miss Mary V. Harris .... featured Gene Shaw, junior, as Johnny, in the role of an editor of a high school paper, The Penquin .... took up the age-long quarrel of male domination, bringing argument mixed with comedy .... provided plenty of laughs through Spud Erwin, Johnny's pal who believes he is irresistible to women, played by Don Harkins—presented girlish high school charm in the roles of Susan Blake, flame of Johnny, and Lucybelle Lee, Southern belle . . . . was enjoyed by old and young alike. ★ Stage Door Thespian spring production .... featured an unusually large cast of 32 ... . leading roles in this story of life in a boarding house for girls on the stage taken by Marsh McLeod, David Bates, Carl Hysen, Marion Peters, Shirley Ea- heart .... directed by Miss Mary V. Harris . . . . theme centered on Hollywood versus Broadway idea .... brittle dialogue, clever gags, moving climaxes made Stage Door a play to be long remembered in MHS. ★ The Enchanted Cottage a 40-minute cutting from a play of that name by Arthur Wing Pinero .... presented as Mis- soula high's entry in the Little Theater Festival at the Montana Interscholastic Track and Field Meet .... shown to an invited audience May 12 in the high school auditorium .... a fantasy involving an embittered, crippled soldier who marries a plain little spinster to escaped his un- sympathetic friends and parents .... speaking parts taken by Gasper Cornell, Marsh Mc- Cleod, Bill Rock, Tannisse Brown, Marjorie Powell, George Skrivseth, Orman Mace. ★ Christmas Cantata preserved the traditional Christmas solemni- ty at MHS .... sponsored by music and drama departments with afternoon and evening per- formances .... combined Boys' and Girls' Glee Clubs furnished music under Miss Kathryne Borg's direction .... Miss Mary V. Harris, drama instructor, directed the tableaux . . . . students pantomined Mary, Joseph, angels, inn- keeper, shepherds, wisemen, and the Angel Gabriel in presentation behind an illusion cur- tain .... varied lighting effects and robed sing- ers carrying candles added to the impressive- ness of the program. ★ Music Boys' Glee Club, Girls' Glee Club, A Cappella Choir present numerous concerts during year . . . . glee clubs under direction of Miss Kathryne Borg .... combined they form the A Cappella Choir under Emmet Anderson .... glee clubs appear in Christmas cantata .... all three re- ceived top honors in district music meet and state festival .... sing for Commencement and Baccalaureate. 26
