ffzsfrfry af I 6 Hass af '60 FRESHMAN YEAR 1,56-'57j Our first year at Helix was the tremendous beginning of an outstanding high school career for the class of 1960. We entered Helix as a class of 529 students, the largest Frosh class up to that time. Our election of class officers was very enthusiastic and well participated in. Mrs. Clara Brown, our counselor, helped us to adjust to high school life. Right away we were known as the most active, enthusiastic, friendly, and school-supporting class Helix had ever known. We sponsored the most successful after-game dance that year. We felt proud to attend the high school that won Metro League Championships in almost every sport in the year '56-'57, OF- FICERS: President-Danny Ornelas, Vice-President4Mary Dell Hutchens, Secretary-Penny Bauer, Treasurer-Bev Lebb. SOPHOMORE YEAR Q57 58D 1 our Soph year we continued our outstanding accomplishments. The pening of the new Mount Miguel High School cut down our numbers J 420 students, but that didn't daunt our spirit one bit. Our counselor Irs. Brown left to tour Europe, so Mrs. Hazel Bole became our coun- zlor. The Soph Council was on the ball with a money-raising car wash fhich was fun as well as successful. For the safety drive we placed a 'recked car on the Helix grounds to stress Backing the Attack on traf- ic accidents. We were proud that many of the outstanding leaders be- mging to our class ran for commission offices in the ASB elections and 'on! OFFICERS: President-Bob White, Vice-President-Mary Dell lutchens, Secretary-Jacquie Martin fabsentj, Treasurer-Linda Coates. JUNIOR YEAR css-'595 Our junior year brought us the reputation of doing things differently. We were now a class of 400. Returning from Europe Mrs. Brown joined Mrs. Bole. We now had two counselors, each taking half the day. When the time came to choose our class rings, we changed the traditional ring crest by a class vote. We put on a big toy drive at Christmas time and received a big response. For the first time we organized Junior committees to plan junior activities, among which was our junior party at Big Oak Ranch. Our classmates honored as Tartan Bearers were: jerry Sodomka, Randy Spencer, Wally Hartwell, Neil Timm, Dennis Bunde, Steve Mucha, Nancy Christian, Colette Druebber, Linda Coates, Mary Dell Hutchens, Penny Bauer, and Heather Hunter. OFFICERS: President-Bob White, Vice-President-Jan Collins, Secretary-Judy Holzman, Treasurer-Sharon Tobiasson. SENIOR YEAR C59 609 Jur high school career ended with as much success as it began. Mrs. Bole vecame the only counselor of our 377 students. We felt very proud to ie Seniors. Our Senior boys started a new tradition of wearing white hirts and ties on Fridays during football season. Our many Senior activi- ies were all happy successes. They included: Homecoming with Queen Sloria Smith, Graduation, the Prom, the Banquet, Baccalaureate Service, . Senior Breakfast, and two Ditch Days! Our Senior Play, The Great 3ig Doorstep, was well attended and brought in a sizeable amount of noney to our class funds. Two events which brought us triumph in our ast year at Helix were beating Mount Miguel in football, thus securing he claymore,l' and winning the Metro League Championship in bas- zetball. OFFICERS: President-Bob White, Vice-President-Mary Dell -Iutchens, Secretary-Jeannie Bagrie, Treasurer-Sharon Tobiasson.
