In years to come we will remember not the things we have learned from books and study, but the good times and fun we've had. Helena High has been good to us. It has helped us, uplifted us, maybe pushed us if necessary. In various ways we have tried to grow along with our school and help it to its place in the sun. Now as we go on in the world it will be a mark of distinction to be able to say I graduated from Helena High. The value of our high school days to us will be meas- ured not so much by the number of A's we got in chem- istry as by the number of friends we've made. As we push on through life it will be things like that which will make living worthwhile and our lives a SUCCESS. Frank Stermitz Walter Schmitz Wallalee Winkler Marjorie Iohnson Hoover Ogata Gloria Grimm lean Harker FRANK STERMITZ Valedictorian ,'... HELENA HIGH SCHOOL HIGHEST RANKING SENIORS CLASS OF 1946 Stanley Rathman Lucille Hardy Ione Weiss Marjorie Dreher Florence Bryan Frances Burgess Shirley Spores Iean Handel Dick Carstensen Betty Lou Hall Io Shearer Laverne Lutz Sailutatonmj We, the graduates of the Class of 1946 leave Helena High school with the knowledge that we are now better prepared to take the next step in our lives. We have been taught by the ablest of instructors whom we shall not forget because of their efforts in our behalf. We have learned the value of the numerous friendships which we have made during our high school days. We regret that these pleasant associations must now be disrupted to a certain extent since the class will separate and go different ways to follow their chosen fields of endeavor. Our tasks naturally will become more difficult, but our capabilities have been greatly improved by what we have learned from our high school education. We now go forward to do our part in the upbuilding of the eco- nomic, moral, spiritual, and political status of the world. We hope that we shall not fail in our duties to contrib- ute to the welfare of all mankind. Nearly 70fstPQJrfg, Helena high school track and field aspirants answered Lloyd Skor's call for track, in preparation for a full schedule of meets arranged by Coach Skor and his assistants. Henry Fiske and Bernard McGinley. With only three lettermen, Joe Brennan, Beezie Jones, and Dick Re- gan, the Bengals' track squad had to be built from the ground up. Aside from the lettermen, the lineup of track candidates included a few members of last year's abbreviated squad, a galaxy of Three R competitors from the grade school meets of previous years, and those who plan to report for football the next fall. In their first competition at Missoula, April 21, Bengal tracksters took second place. Missoula garnered 7112 points, Helena 3312 points, Kalispell 6 and Anaconda 6 points. Brennan took firsts in the 100 and 200 yard dashes, and placed second in the broad jump. Keim won the javelin: Cal- laghan placed second in the half-mile: Gray won the 440 with Bennett third: Stewart tied for first in the pole vault. Jones placed in the high jump, and Plews took third in the 100 yard dash. The Crimson Bengals piled up 54 points to sweep the five-way meet at Great Falls April 28. Trailing the Bengals were Great Falls 31, Havre 2912, Fort Benton 1812, and Lewistown 10. The first place performances of Brennan in the 220, Jones in the hurdles, Keim in the javelin, Cars- tensen in discus, Callaghan in half-mile, and Gray in the 440 handed Coach Lloyd Skor's Bengal cinder artists their victory. In the First Annual Jaycee Relays in Helena, May 4, Helena Bengals and the Missoula Spar- tans each won two relays, and Great Falls won one.
