Team captain and men's singles champ, Darren Murray, led the men players to many exciting victories. Chris Van Voorhis, the women's captain, provided strong leadership for the willing players. All members of the winning Lions tennis team put in long hours of practice in forehand, backhand, and volleys to finish number one in Europe. Mag McGinIey, the dynamic coach of the team, really pushed the players through tough drills and workouts. And it all paid off. Though there were traditional students who exerted little physical effort, others worked their way 'til summer. While some prepared for summer activi- ties, still others wrapped up their Sports seasons. Many aspiring young professionals focused their efforts to- wards working. The Dependent Youth ParnTime and Summer Hire programs offered them a variety of jobs at the hosPital, Campbell, PHV, and other locations. Base- ball and softball are DYA sponsored during the summer. Also for students, Project Bold, a rigorous summer camp, invited Heidelbergers to enjoy activities including backpacking, rock climbing, and mountaineering. The Sea Lions, a local swim team composed of several HHS students, won eight of eleven meets. In Munich, our own Bret Peterson took second in backstroke while Scott of Seasons Cleveland came in third. The Booster Club's Winter Sports Night recognized the basketball players, wrestlers, Cheerleaders, drill team, gymnasts, and the AjROTC Ri- fle Team. From the men's basketball team, Bryan Knapp and Kendall Roberts received AH-Conference awards. Roberts was also an All-Tournament awardee. The wom- en's basketball team, AAA Conference runner-up, awarded Britta Kilpatrick AII-Conference and All-Tour- namerit awards. Tanya Poslik was also an AH-Tourna- ment award winner. Heidelbergis esteemed wrestlers were AAA Conference and Regional Champs, as well as European runners-up. Mike and Maurice Sipos contrib- uted a fantastic combined season record of 55-0. The Heidelberg Lion's pride was going places as students got involved in school and community activities and ended their year by having a roaring good time.
