TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTITTTTTTT On the Cleaner Side of Things By James F. Madison III Over the past few years, Heidelberg High School tHHSh has resembled a pig sty. Stu- dents, not caring about the condition of their school, would leave trays and trash on the tables and floors of the cafeteria. Hallways were al- ways covered with food wrap- pers, excess paper, pencils and notebooks. There were too many restrictions against the students which caused them to litter as a form of revolt against the school administra- tion. Today when one walks through HHS, there is a total- ly different look to the school; it actually looks de- cent. More students take the initiative to pick up after themselves and put their trays on the carts. The hallways look much better with less trash on top of the lockers and on the floors. The dras- tic change in students attitudes toward the school is a result of a new program called P.R.I.D.E. which was instilled into our school by the administration. P.R.I.D.E stands for Putting Responsir bility Into Dependent's Educa: tion. So far, it seems to be working. By promising to give students extra time for lunch or a short morning break on Fridays, the students have been given some incentive to keep the school clean. They now have something positive to look forward to instead of just more rules and restric- tions. More trash cans have been placed in various places around the school, such as in the main lobby, the cafeteria, and in each hallway. The administration and the faculty have begun to reenforce the EXCUSE- ME , DOYOU HAVE F1 KE? r e A3? 5M a TTTTTTiTITTTTTTTTTTITTTTTTTTTT Vno food in the hallways rule. Now that they cannot eat in the hallways, students have less trash to throw on Lhe floors or on top of the lockers. The added trash cans have made it more convenient wfor students to throw their trash away. The main difference between our school before and our school now is that the current ;students have a goal to aim 1for. If they reach this goal, 1they will be rewardes. The added convenience for throwing trash away has made students want to make the effort. This method of leaving it up to the students to clean the school, backed with a little incen- tive, has proven to work well. Words From Our Principal on P.R.I.D.E. I think anything we do to highlight our environment is benefical, says Dr. Korth. He is referring to Lion's P.R.I.D.E. T Putting Respon- sibility Into Dependant's Edu- cation i. Since the P.R.I.D.E. program began, there has been quite a noticeable change in the cleanliness of the school. P.R.I.D.E. works really well. and we appreciate the student effort, says Dr. Korth. Volume 17 lliiXiiiiiiitliiiiliiiiiiiiiii MISSED AMERICA PAGEANT AND SECOND FLOOR LOBBY DANCE by Christina Tompkins And the winner is Miss Arkansas, Pauline Hogan!! This annoucement ended the 4 th Annual Missed America Pageant, which was held on March 30th. The Pageant was a tremendous success, and it seemed like the whole school came out to see it. The evening was hilariously funny, with all the guys parading around in bathing suits and evening gowns. The guys who participated obviously had no doubts about their masculin- ity, for this evaat had to be one of the most embarrassing experiences in their life and it required the guts and strength to set aside their pride and show everyone what they had. tNo wonder no freshman guys signed up!y One of the highlights of the evening was Matt Venzke 's inspirational song he composed and sang for the Class of 1985. The winner was, Miss Arkansas, Paul Hogan, who danced up a storm to the song Easy Lover. Scott Webster, Miss Nevada, was first runner- up. He put on a stunning per- formance to The Heat Is On , even though he had some trouble with the front of his dress. Miss Hawaii, Mike Anderson, who was second runner-up, danced the hula to a peaceful Hawaiian isong. Third runner-up was Ryan Kish, who put on a riveting tto say the leasty performance to Jungle Love. After the pageant the first ever Second Floor Lobby Dance ywas held, with the concession standrun by the freshman. It also turned out to be quite a success. Heidelberg American High School llllillliflliiiiililiililiiiil Here at HHS we're real lucky to have the talents of Mistaken Idenity, fronted by John Glass and Leroy Ansteine who take up the lead and rhy- thm guitar and vocal chores. These two belt out vocal and guitar licks you'll never for- get. Next comes John's broth- her, Steve, on synthesiser and finally, backing up this set with some of the most awesome bass and drum licks, bettered only by the likes of profess- ional bands, are Scott Cleve- land and Jason Packer, res- pectively, Unfortunatly, Jason fell victim to a PCS move and is no longer with the band. When asked about a re- placement drummer, John re- plied, Know any good drum- mer? If you were lucky enough to see Mistaken Identity at last year's variety show you know of the powerhouse quintet I'm writing of. Opening with Crimson a Clover and closing out their relatively short set with John Cougar's Hurt .gg Good they left their audience screaming for more. Formed in 83, the original line-up is all but gone. John Glass is the only survivor of that band's crash. But he's obviously struck back with force. Playing in a power packed quintet and holding on to at least moderately good grades is obviously tough, so it still remains unknown whether or not Mistaken Identity will play again in the near future. When asked if he would take his band into another stage- side excursion Glass quietly replied, Maybe, Maybe. Mr. Glass, I certainly hope so. June 1985

WINTER'S MEMORY Running away with a song on your mind Can't remember the tune But you're singing all the time Oh, life's such a mystery to you Is it the song you sing 0: who you sing it to? How true, Mr. Snider. Stay Hungry has the material it takes to get any Heavy Metal fan '5 undivided attention. With two hit singles, We're Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock, this band has got Quite a tour behind them and is set for some real good times. People hate us Snider about rrzrxrxrxrxrrrrrrrrrrrxxxrrrxr SPRING PEP RALLY by Christina Tompkins The Spring Sports Season got underway with an exciting Pep Rally on the 15th of March. Starting things out were the indroduction of the JV and Varsity soccer teams. The women 's Varsity soccer team did an impressive routine. Then the men's Varsity team marched out to the powerful theme song of 2001: A Space Odyssey and showed their stuff. The track team was in- troduced, and then the tennis team surprised the Freshman with a slew of tennis balls as they demonstrated The Drop Shot . The Spirit Stick was won by the enthusiastic Sopho- more Class. The Spring Pep Rally was a tremendous success and a lot of fun. Art by: William Seline On this piece from the Sisters is the good, but a tiny bit strange, Horror- Teria, which does remarkable things to a good imagination. If HM is your type of thing, lend an ear to this one. And if you're got a Heavy Metal fan, take a listen to We're Not Gonna Take It, a perfect teen anthem, and you'll think twice.
