Color Guard jROTC has many objectives to be completed throughOUt the school year. Some of them included developing leadership, self-relience, discipline, and patriotism. Each cadet built up a knowledge of basic military skills with various kinds of field exercises, physical training, and marksmanship. There were also a number of extra-curricular activities such as Color Guard, Drill Team, Honor Guard,ar1d Rifle Team. Enrollment ianOTC could lead to an appointment to the US. Military Academy or to a four-year SeniorjROTC Scholarship. This year the HHS Lion Battalion was designated as Honor Unit with Distinction wDepartment of Army s highest recognitiom for the seventh year out OfChe eleven years of its existence. 1984 Miss Harrell, her three government Classes, and her sociology class organized the first ever PresidentaU Vice Presidential debates and elections. Each class had a voting station which was open most of the day. In the debates President Reagan was por- trayed by Pat Rimron and Marcus Carpenter portrayed Walter Mondale. The topics of the Presidential debate were nuclear freeze, defense spending, and U.S. in- volvement in Central America, Lebanon, and Israel. Heather Malogrides posed as George Bush and Vida Vasaitis was Geraldine Ferraro. The topics in the Vice Presidential debate were abortion, drugs, and unem- ployment. The elections Closed out the week with a mass turn out of student voters. Reagan won by a landslide in all class standings. A11 in all, the elections were a great success. Diane Brominski marks her ballot for her choice of candidates Miss Harrell serves breakfast to Eric Beasley, who showed up early to help man the voting booths, Faculty and Academics
