BEIRUT, LEBANON It wasa wonderful feeling to be entering port that February l7th morning, our first port of call since leaving Newport February lst. For most of us this was our initial visit to the Arab world. Of immediate interest lwere King Far- ouk's ex-yacht and the British frigate Urania tied astern of us. The city was large and absorbing- con- taining such stellar hangouts as the Victory, American, and Kit-Kat clubs. All types of enter- tainment were available to a liberty hungry crew, who sure took advantage of their opportunities. Most of us will remember Beirut for a long, long time to come.. i. The rocks ot which the temples are made are some of the largegf ever quarried and are fitted together so per. tectly fwithout mortari that it is impossible to slide even a piece of paper between the ioints.
