SPORTS HALL OF FAME The Hector Wildcats won their dis- trict basketball tournament the first year they had a coach. It was in the spring of 1927. Teams from all sizes of schools played in one division in those days. Hector High School only went to the tenth grade at that time. Hector won dis- trict the next two years also. Wildcat gym replaced in 196S One boy, |oe Garrigus, on this team made all state’s first team his first year in college at Arkansas Tech and later made the All Southern first team and honorable mention on All-American while at Louisiana State. Hector High School had one other boy, V. O. Story, who later did as well as Joe at the same schools. Hector reinstated football in their senior varsity sports program this year after a lapse of 49 years. The community has been working to raise money for an athletic field to be completed hopefully this spring. The Wildcat baseball team that still holds the school record is the team of 1965. They won district and went to the state tournament. Coach Berry was their coach. 12

TWO GIRLS’ TEAMS IN STATE COMPETITION 1969 Girls' team won district and played two games in the state tournament. They won the state scholastic trophy given to the team that has the highest grade average. They were coached by Coach Frost. In 1974 the girls again went to state and played two games.
