WILDCAT 1975 Volume XXV “Dawn of a New Beginning Kathy Aday, Editor Mrs. Janice Owens, Sponsor Hector Public Schools, Hector, Arkansas TABLE OF CONTENTS onors rganizations ctivities igh School iddle School lementary School dministration dvertising The Livin’ End Index 4-11 12-17 18-41 42-63 64-73 74-87 88-95 96-117 118 125-127 2 THE DAWN OF A NEW BEGINNING This year is the dawn of many begin- nings at Hector. The kindergarten pro- gram is the beginning for many students who get a head start in school. Hector’s new middle school with its spacious class- rooms eased crowded conditions in the grade school. In senior high many students took advantage of the new music orientation classes. Hard work always marks the beginning of each new basketball season. For seniors now going out into the world of business or on to specialized schools, this year is the dawn of many beginnings. 3 Honors HONOR ROLL STUDENTS These students made a 3.25 or better average grade point every grading period during the fall semester. EIGHTH GRADE Kay Launius, Billy Allison, Rita Warren, Steve Williams, Sheila King, Randy Turner. JUNIORS Seated: Frankie Turnbough, Charlotte Hays, Ron Stark. Standing: Steven Warren, Dale Felkins, Denny Bell SENIORS Bottom: Rita Churchill, Joe Pinegar. Cliff Addison, Randy Prince. Top: Janet Newton, Pam Mathis, Kathy Aday, Sheila Churchill Rena FRESHMEN Pam Kirk, Pam Hays, Sheila Bohanan, Kathy Drewry SOPHOMORES Boland, Delilah Athey, Janie Walker 5 WHO’S WHO is selected by the junior and senior high school faculty each year. These students were elected for their outstanding leadership, citizenship and participation in school activities. Service is the keynote word when Shelia Churchill’s name is mentioned. During her days as a student, Shelia has served Hector High School well. This service has held her in good standing with the Beta Club, F.H.A., Annual Staff, Paper Staff, Basketball, Track, Junior and Senior Play, and Choir. For years to come, younger students will remember Shelia for her willingness to undertake any job that needs to be done. Randy Prince is an excellent example of the sports minded male student who puts everything into anything he attempts to do, all the way from playing basketball to any classroom project. This desire to excel has taken Randy a long way in his basketball career for he has also been named All District. This determination carried him through track, Junior and Senior Play. If past perfor- mance counts for anything, Randy will go far in all areas of life. m In Denny Bell’s eleven years of schooling at Hector, he had impressed the faculty as well as the student body with his conscientious dedication toward his studies. This dedication has paid off in many ways, the first of which is being a member of the Beta Club. He applies this same dedication in basketball, baseball, track and toward his Annual Staff duties. With this attitude, we predict that Denny will accomplish much in life. Leadership with a capital L tells of Kathy Aday’s accomplishments in her twelve years at Hector High School. Her leadership ability has been ably displayed on the basketball court for she has also been chosen to the All District Team. This leadership carries over into other v areas for she has been an active participant with the Paper f Staff, Choir, F.H.A., Junior and Senior Play, Track and Teacher’s Aide. As further proof of her ability, she is Editor of the Wildcat annual and president of the Beta Club. We expect great things from this Who’s Who candi- w ' Joe Pinegar became a part of Hector High School in the tenth grade but since that time, he has shown many outstanding talents that he will be long remembered by. His ability has earned him a place in Beta Club, Annual Staff, Class Officer, Junior Play, Senior Play, and National Who’s Who. Being elected to the Hector’s Who’s Who is a fitting climax for a student who has served Hector High School as J oe has done. • An outstanding honor was heaped upon Pam Coffman and the entire sophomore class this year. Pam was elected Homecoming Queen by the student body. In addition to this honor she plays basketball, is on the Paper Staff, and is an FHA Chapter and Federation officer being elected Who’s Who was an honor she deserved. Rita Churchill is the personification of enthusiasm. Never has Hector High School produced a person who looks at life more enthusiastically. This attitude has made her a big hit in the different organizations in which she has been involved. Rita has held several class offices, been a class favorite, involved in Beta Club, FHA, Annual Staff, Choir, Junior and Senior Play, Pep Club, National Who’s Who, and Candy Store Manager. Rita is a bright spot to everyone who knows her. Participation seems to be the key word when speaking of Janet Newton for she has made her mark with the Paper Staff, Beta Club, Cheerleaders, Class Officer, Junior and Senior Play, FHA, and Choir. Not only is Janet involved in these organizations, but she also has shown her leadership abilities by being elected to different offices within the organizations. She has been Paper Queen, Beta Secretary, Senior Usher, Cheerleader Captain, FHA offi- cer, Janet is the girl with the smile for all. 7 Steven Warren would be an asset to have on your team anytime. Regardless of what happens in life, Steven will let the world know he is in there. The proof that he is a good student can be found in his Beta Club membership. He has also played basketball, run track and is on the Annual Staff. This Who’s Who honor is in the ladder of success. Watch out Hector! Delilah Athey has two more years left in school. She is involved in music. Her talents are not limited to music for she plays basketball, is on the Annual Staff, FHA, class officer. We expect this list of accom- plishments to grow considerably in the next two years. Friendliness is the word for Janie Walker. She is the smiling manager of the girls basketball team. Last year she kept the books for the Jr. teams. Her smiling face has perked up many a FHA meeting. World! Here comes Janie Walker. Look for one of the quietest students on campus, and there you will find Charlotte Hays. She doesn’t have much to say, but her presence can be felt in FHA and the Beta Club. It is only fitting that someone with her attitude toward life should be selected to Who’s Who. Although Rena Boland is involved in several activities, she is on the honor roll. Her accomplishments include basketball, choir, track, Annual Staff, class officer. In her remaining two years of high school, we know Rena will continue on to bigger and better triumphs. Do you know Charlie Hallum? If not, you are missing out on a privilege. He has been a ray of sunshine in basket- ball, Annual Staff, as well as being in the honor roll. Beware, Hector, two more years of Charlie! 8 Organizations WILDCAT YEARBOOK STAFF Mrs. Janice Owens (Sponsor): Bottom Row: Denny Bell (Assistant Editor); Scott Gary; Sheila Bohanan; Pam Kirk; Vicky Standridge; Kathy Aday (Editor); |oe Pinegar (Photographer); Charles Hallum; Shelia Churchill. Looks like the Senior Choir has driven Mrs. Schlobohm to cutting out paper dolls. 119 120 It looks like everyone forgot their lines! Hollie, is F.H.A. really worth it??!!?!! It’s Sandra to the Rescue??!!! Okay Jackson, don’t look so innocent. Hey, this is basketball, not football!!!! Wildcat Defense. Looks like Sammie is about to go to sleep on the Chris stands at the entrance to welcome everyone to Wildcat job!!! Country. Okay Bruce, pay up. Okay boys, let’s just stand here, Dale can do it!! 121 It’s difficult to out rebound Chris. Girls I think you need to work on that cheerleading stunt a littl more. 122 First you put your two knees close up tight then you swing them to Uh, oh! Here comes a pop test! the left and swing ’em to the right. All you Wildcat fans say grin. Mrs. Foster, honest, I didn’t do it this time. 123 ‘‘The Dawn of a New Beginning is finally finished, has gone to the publisher, and now we feel relief that the work is over. To each of the staff members, thanks for your effort in this happening. Unless you have been involved in this kind of project, yoo don’t realize the effort that goes into it. Mrs. Owens was the guiding hand that held the whole staff together. Every student at Hector had a part in this creation of this yearbook. This brings to an end my career on the annual staff and at Hector High School. Looking back over the last three years, I find this experience challenging as well as rewarding. On behalf of the annual staff and our sponsor, we hope that you enjoy the result of our hard work and that in years to come this will bring back fond memories of 1974-1975 at Hector High School. 124 sc aa n r ;• 5.8 je8P;?PS5i e £88882 2 a n o . tlilllfilil kU.ikbkbliHlklli4 5 hi S J2SJk?J3SjS 58 g5 !?J|5fa2 l?
