Text from Pages 1 - 108 of the 1965 volume:

'Pcneou xct The present is always built on the past. We have chosen to give you a record of our school year, 1964-1965, because we are proud of its ac- complishments. Our victories were many; our defeats, heartbreaking. Perhaps all of it, a good picture of life. We deeply appreciate the help and cooperation of our advertisers, the faculty, and the student body in making possible this annual. With pride in the past, confidence in the future, we present to you the WILDCAT of 1965 The Annual Staff HECTOR HIGH SCHOOL Hector, Arkansas 'DediaUiM When the history of the Hector School is written, one of the all-time greats will be recorded and it is to her - - Miss Lois Hurley - - that we want to dedicate our yearbook. A spotlight seems to reflect her classroom as being a special one in our book of high school memories. Quiet, concerned, understanding, with millions of hours to spend doing the little extras that made our school days wonderful. That was “Our Miss Hurley.” She could not control our destiny nor determine where we will go in life, but she has equipped us with wings for the flight. She taught us that our goal cannot be reached by a single bound, but that we must build the ladder upon which we rise. Step by step she brought us near the summit of a mountain of knowledge that at times seemed insurmountable. As we stand here now and survey the vast uncertain future we are deeply grateful for the pattern of life she showed us. We love her not only for what she has been to us, but also for what she has helped us to become. The Great Master Teacher placed her hue not only with facts but with kind- ness, sympathy, patience, and an approach to the classroom that made school days enjoyable. Castles are built not of dreams - - but of courage and determi- nation, faith and energy, knowledge and wisdom. These things she taught us can turn our dreams into realities. True greatness lies in starting something that lives on after your footsteps tread new paths. We hope the foundation you laid in our lives will build a temple that you can be proud of. In your retirement years, may you find contentment and honor for the time you gave to our school. Your beautiful chain of friendships formed from your students will grow stronger and brighter as the years go by. We want this yearbook, which means so much to us, to be a token of our appreciation for all your help. Foreground: Leslie Langford, President; John Llewellyn, Secretary Background: Members; Glen Bibler, Opal Bartlett. Seawood Gray Dear Students, America and her people possess certain qualities that set her out as distinctive among other nations of the world. Among these are unbounded ambition, a never ending supply of energy, a willingness to try new things and a deep re- spect for the individual and his inherent right to happiness and success. In order for you to be an integral part of this, it is nec- essary that you prepare yourself for the opportunities that will come your way. You have many advantages over past generations. Use your time well — the challenge is yours. I have enjoyed working with you this year and I wish you much success and happiness. A friend, G. B. Therefore, I am rejoiced to be associated with great teachers, past and present. I am happy to add my bit by way of illustrated stories. It takes $35,000 to graduate one life, but I believe that each life is precious far beyond this amount and that each life has a purpose. Within each person there are abilities and potentialities ready to be awakened into an active, happy personality which would make one able to fill his place in life.
