On August 28, 1954, 56 eager students entered high school as freshmen. After being assigned to our homeroom, we met our class advisors, Miss Jorgenson and Mr. Swanson. Our elected class officers were: George Beske, Karen Johnson, Marlys Janke, and Dennis Eckerman. One of the events we will remember was the winning of first prize in the Homecoming Parade on our float built around the theme, Sink the Vikings. Another outstanding event was our BasketSocia1 class party. On August 31, 1955, as the students of the class of 54 gathered for school, the loss of one of our classmates, Galen Current, was felt by all. Class elections were held with Helen Zweig, Lyla Grams, Cynthia Johnson, and Bruce Reuber elected. Again our Homecoming float with the slogan, Dun1p the Gophers won first prize. Later in the fall we sponsored a Sadie Hawkins Day Dance for the entire high school. Advising throughout the year were Mrs. Jonason and Mr. Estenson. There were 51 in our Junior class, and during the year Ray Grundeman, Susie Clark, Karen Johnson, and Bruce Reuber were elected class officers. The first event of the year was Home- coming. Our float won first prize for the fourth consecutive year. The theme was, You Are There--Renville's Last Stand. On November ninth and tenth, we presented our class play Come Out of the Closet under the direction of Mrs. Evenson. On May 4, 1957, the Junior Class sponsored the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. The theme of the prom was, Dream Along With US. It was carried out by decorating the gym in blue and silver. Music was provided by the Star Dusters. To earn money for our eastern trip, we had a beef dinner, candy sales, and dances. Mrs. Nygaard and Mr. Estenson were our class advisors. Our final year began on August 26, 1957, we elected Ray Grundeman as president, Tom Hen- nessey, vice-president, Karen Johnson, secretaryg Bruce Rueber, treasurer. To help finance our trip to Washington, D.C. and New York City we served two public dinners, held several candy sales, sold Tek toothbrushes, and magazine subscriptions and sponsored after game dances. The culminating events of our years in school were baccalaureate, final examinations, and graduation. 8
