During Mr. Estenson's years in Hector, he made an indelible impression as a teacher and coach upon all of hi students and players. His efforts as our adviser, especially in the Junior year, helped to make our class trip a success. His crit- ical attitude and determination toward ac- complishment has helped sharpen our outlook on life. We hope this small momento will convey our sincere appreciation to you, Mr. Est- enson. We wish you every success in your new position. A Y ur Ah:-an ' anna- '--'pf il ADMINISTRATIO H. A. SCHMIDT, SUPERINTENDENT You have approached your first bridge this year. It has taken twelve years to arrive at that bridge. Across, on the other side, lies your future. The road has led in one direction up to this point. Across the bridge there are many different roads to take and each has many detours. There is another difference on the other side of the bridge. You have traveled together as a group so far. On the other side each of you must travel alone. Some of your paths will be in the same general direction as others of your class, but as the journey lengthens you will discover that the road you travel is yours along into the future. It is my sincere wish that each of you has the perseverance, steadiness, and a faith in your God that will enable you to reach your journey's end with a deep sense of accomplish- ment and contentment. School Board To the graduating class of 1958, congratulations and best wishes for much success in the future. I hope that you have gotten more out of your twelve years in school than a mere accumulation of facts. It is of vital concern to you that you have learned the importance of fair play and that you have learned to defend and live by the principles that you know are right. It is important that you have learned to be hon- est with your fellow citizens but, most of all, that you be honest with yourself. If you have learned these things, then much success will be yours. On August 28, 1954, 56 eager students entered high school as freshmen. After being assigned to our homeroom, we met our class advisors, Miss Jorgenson and Mr. Swanson. Our elected class officers were: George Beske, Karen Johnson, Marlys Janke, and Dennis Eckerman. One of the events we will remember was the winning of first prize in the Homecoming Parade on our float built around the theme, Sink the Vikings. Another outstanding event was our BasketSocia1 class party. On August 31, 1955, as the students of the class of 54 gathered for school, the loss of one of our classmates, Galen Current, was felt by all. Class elections were held with Helen Zweig, Lyla Grams, Cynthia Johnson, and Bruce Reuber elected. Again our Homecoming float with the slogan, Dun1p the Gophers won first prize. Later in the fall we sponsored a Sadie Hawkins Day Dance for the entire high school. Advising throughout the year were Mrs. Jonason and Mr. Estenson. There were 51 in our Junior class, and during the year Ray Grundeman, Susie Clark, Karen Johnson, and Bruce Reuber were elected class officers. The first event of the year was Home- coming. Our float won first prize for the fourth consecutive year. The theme was, You Are There--Renville's Last Stand. On November ninth and tenth, we presented our class play Come Out of the Closet under the direction of Mrs. Evenson. On May 4, 1957, the Junior Class sponsored the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. The theme of the prom was, Dream Along With US. It was carried out by decorating the gym in blue and silver. Music was provided by the Star Dusters. To earn money for our eastern trip, we had a beef dinner, candy sales, and dances. Mrs. Nygaard and Mr. Estenson were our class advisors. Our final year began on August 26, 1957, we elected Ray Grundeman as president, Tom Hen- nessey, vice-president, Karen Johnson, secretaryg Bruce Rueber, treasurer. To help finance our trip to Washington, D.C. and New York City we served two public dinners, held several candy sales, sold Tek toothbrushes, and magazine subscriptions and sponsored after game dances. The culminating events of our years in school were baccalaureate, final examinations, and graduation. 8 RAYMOND GRUNDEMAN BB l,2,3,45 B l,2,3,45 Ftb 2.,3,45 Ch 2,3,45 SC l,3,45 Proj 3,45 CP 3,45 CO 3,45 MC 15 HCA 4. The noon hour intramurals program once again played an important part in the student life at Hector High. During the school year, various ac- tivities were provided for high school students. These activities consisted of volleyball and bas- ketball, and were climaxed by a class tournament in basketball. The eighth grade took the Junior High title while the juniors were the Victors of Senior High. Wrestling entered the circle of high school athletics at Hector for the first time during the 1957-58 season. This sport' was under the directorship of Coach Dean Means. Although the season's record was not too bright, Hector did turn out some good wrestlers with Tom Hen- nessey and Norm Anderson taking second in the district tournament in the 165 pound and 175 pound classes respectively. Recognition should be given to the team and their coach for the fine job they did in their first year of competition. The prom was held May 10, 1958. After a delicious Swiss steak banquet and a brief program, the Junior Class officers led the Grand March. The rest of the evening was spent dancing to the music of Marvell Nelson's band. To give the impression of a pioneer street, paintings of various building fronts hung along one wall. A buggy, a wagon, and wheels were placed in other parts of the gym to help create a rustic atmosphere.
