HOWARD C. COCI-IRAN, Superintendent This is the third year in which I have had the pleasure to have been one of your supervisors and friends. I have derived a great deal of satisfaction in observing the progress you have made, both in your curricular and extra-curricular activities. It is with the full realization that the progress you make between the ages of six and eighteen years will be your sole forte in whatever measure of happiness and success you might enjoy ln yotu adult lives that I have based my planning for your welfare in public education. Our world of today faces problems very precarious in nature. The giant forces of democracy and communism are battling, even though it be in a cold war, for a commanding position to see which great force will com- mand the future welfare of all the people of all the nations of our world. And the victory of the democracy that we love and respect will be emanated from the product of our youth of today--from the boys and girls who, today, are students like yourselves. Therefore, very carefully analyze your particular life and the future success and happiness you wish to achieve-- then try with all your might to achieve it, 'Education makes people easy to lead, but difficult to drive: easy to govem, but impossible to enslave.
