George B.: Hey, you can’t smoke on the school grounds. Robert B.: I’m not smoking. George: Well, you got a cigarette in your mouth.” Robert: Yeah, you have got pants on too, but you are not panting. Miss Brisco: Edward, what is the unit of electricity? Edward: The what? Miss Briscoe: Yes, of course; the watt. Reach: Hey, don’t shoot, your gun aint’ loaded. Marshall: Can’t help that, the bird won’t wait. Mrs. Farley (discussing the Renaissance): When was the revival of learning?” Sara C.: Just before exams. Mrs. Johnson: Where is there a change in atmosphere of this poem?” Murray: In the fourth part, where it be- gins to rain. Wm. Newman was such an expense at school that his father called him Bill”. Hilton hired out to Mr. Johnson to plow. When the horses started, Mr. Johnson said, Hold that plow!” Hilton: How can I hold this plow when there arc two horses pulling it away from me? Mr. Milam: Louis, where is Doc?” Louis: A. W. O. L. Mr. Milam: What do you mean? Louis: After women or liquor. Frances: Lets cat here.” Lorene: No, let’s eat up the street. Frances: No, I don’t think that I could digest asphalt.” Mrs. Shiver: Preston, why were you so late to class? Preston: Because the bell rang before I got here.” Ramona: I was on the stage once.” Irene: You were?” Ramona: Yeah, I fell out of the balcony.” Tommy: Did you know that my Grand- mother had a wooden leg?” Arnold H.: That’s nothing my sister has a cedar chest.” Doctor: There is nothing wrong with you; you only need rest.” Mary Jo: But, Doctor; look at my tongue. What does it need?” Doctor: I think it needs rest, too.” Paul B.: Did you ever take chloroform?” Calvin G.: No, who teaches it?” Jeff and Ruby were out motoring and Ruby insisted that he allow her to drive. After some persuasion he reluctantly consented, and his fears soon were realized. Oh. Jeff,” Ruby cried excitedly, take it quick! Here ccmes a ditch! Mrs. Gibson: Leslie, do you think sardines are healthy. Leslie: Well, I never heard one complain.” Carolyn F.: Why is the milk so weak?” Martha N.: Why, the cows got caught in the rain.” Victor Rae: Have you commenced to write your thesis? Imogcnc: Yes, I have five thousand words already. Victor Rae: Goodness! Imogene: Yes, I’ve taken the first five thousand words from the dictionary. I’ll ar- range them later. — 26 —
