' . -3 ' .. h M A ' T E LITTLE RBD SCHOOL HOUS Heavener's 1948 school system, which boasts a total of seven buildings and 34 faculty members,isa far cry from its 'first little red school house , erected sometime in 1890 According to long time residents,t1is one room frame struc ture was located in the west part of town near the old Joe Heavener residence The students who ranged inage from five to twentv five years, were instructed by oneteacher whose martyred' name is not preserved in the archives of the City of Heavener However, the school had an enrollment of some 25 students, who carried their drinking water fromana tesian well locat ed near Dr Fair's place During the fall, the larger boys cut firewood and carried lt to the schoolwhere itwas burned in a single cast iron stove and the was the H8 In 1898 two of Heavener's activecitizens,O J 1 Brewer better school building This building was located where Commercial Hotel now stands Since Heavener'spopulation rapidly increasing the new school was two stories high, second floor being used bythe Masoniclodge This build was occupied until 1905 when the city floated bonds to H H 1 1 EH u U ' ' - ..
