TEAM Forty girls reported for basketball practice The five return ng lettermen were quita felton, Maxine Harris, Ava Nell Russell Mildred Russell, and Pauline Vise ,Quite was unanimously elected by the entire squad, as Captain In two weeks ti e tnis s,uad was cut down to twenty four, twelve on the enior high team and twelve on the Junior nxgh team This culling down process was rather dlfficult u5 there were many of alout the same playing abi ity The high school girls started out their season lr fine style by romplni over aldro .ark to high score of 37 lp tilwell was taken on next in a 19 16 victory Their winning streak continued until mldseason when after mne victories they were defeated by a strong Fanshawe sextet, 36 JS In the Invitation 'Iburnament at Monroe the olverines defeated Panama 25 19, in the first round In the seml finals tre defeated a strong Howe team, who later won the State Chamglonshlp by a score of 32 24 This was the high point in the seasons playing as olr girls had not beaten Howe in several years In the finals our girls were again defeated a second time by Fanshawe, '38 30 The reminder of the season was not as good as the first but was stil above the average first round jo 9 In the second game they were up set by a fighting Spiro team 29 This team had been defeated twice in regular season play The Yolverines are to be highly recommended for their type of playing throughout the season They were recommended at the Mo roe Tournament for their sportsmanship and conduct The following girls lettered and will receive gold basketballs Quite Helton, Guard Maxine Harris, Guard, Ava well Russell, Guard, Pauline Vise, Guard, Geneva O'Neal Guard, Dessie Davis, Guard Mildred Russell, Forward Faye Naylor, Forward Mary Jane Babb, Forward, Lucille Turner, Forward, Betty lilson, Forward, Artie Duncan, Forward BOYS BASKETBALL Tl-.AM Forty three boys reported for basketball the first week in December Five of these boys were lettemen from the year before The rest were rather small and inexperienced After two weeks of practice this squad was cut down to fifteen The season was started with an easy romp over 'Valdron to tune of Z7 5 The next two games were lo t to Stilwell and Panama respectively The rlolves then started in on their conference schedule In the next seven games only one was lost and that was to a conference foe Haileyville beat them on the olve's court 17 la The last two conference games were played away from home The Poteau 'Pirates' suffered a 22 12 defeat at their hands The Wolves' than journeyed to Haileyville for a very important conference game The game ended 21 20 with the 'Iolves winning the Black Diamond Conference In the Monroe Invitation 'Iburnament the Spiro 'Bulldogs' were defeated in the first round 31 21 I the second game a strong vlister team was defeated 21 20 Glendale was met in hard fought finals and the Iolves were defeated in the biggest upset in the tournament 23 21 In the County Tournament the boys were defeated in the first game by a smooth playing Howe team The score was jl 23 The Nolves ended their season in the Regional Tournament when they were defeated in a very close, well played game with McAlester, Z7 214 The team at times could play the best and defeat them but there were let downs throughout the season Their season was quite a success in that they won fourteen gmes, losing eleven The following boys will receive gold basketballs as a result of winning their conference Howard Sommer, Forward, Bemice Brooks, Forward Bernice Creve, Forward, Bob Atk ns Forward, Glen Enge, Center, Clarence Haynes, Center, Chrl Lng, Guard, Arnold Riley, Guard, Horace Barnes, Guard, Arnold flright, Forward, Estee Luman, Forward. if la . - 4 ,9 X - f 4 ' , a .
