l S S 2 A Night in the Life of a Basketball Uniform. About once a week, on game night, the life ofa basket- ball uniform becomes one of the most fascinating exis- tences possible. On that night, the uniform is neatly folded and tucked into the gym bag for what will seem an endless journey to the locker room. Upon reaching the locker room, the uniform is placed on the bench while its owner prepares to don it. From the moment the player is in his uniform, his emotional prepara- tion for the game has begun. He begins to suffer what is known in the world of sports as pre-game jittersf' How- ever, once in the game, his uniform, moist with perspira- tion, the player enjoys the challenge of fierce competition. Then, at the game's end, the uniform once again be- comes a symbol, this time of either defeat or victory. If, upon reaching the confines of the locker room, the player hurls it to an unpleasant destiny, one can sense that the game has been an effort in futility. However, if this garment is gently slipped off and neatly strung over the locker door, one can be just as sure that the ultimate goal has been achieved: c'Victory. E
