Many think that a teacher is some sort of inhuman creature that has no feelings. We often overlook the fact that, like us, teachers are people. Along with being an instructor to students, a teacher is also a friend to them. He or she is, in fact, a very special friend. From this friend, a student learns a great deal of valuable knowledge about life, in addition to the valuable knowledge he learns in school. Students should listen carefully as the teacher speaks, for in him speaks the voice of experience. Since he was once a youth also, a teacher knows the difficulties his pupils are facing, both in and out of school. He guides, encourages, and best of all, understands them. Students should realize the time and effort that teachers give in trying to help their students become better people. Therefore, the Class of 1974 would like to say a brief, but sincere thank you to our teachers - our friends. 52 53 915 x as 'in f 5 55 S Q Nzxwaa E gy my ' ' ' E i' I ef -' i ' TOP: Mr. Rivers, President of P.T.A. This sunshine is a ray of hope, hope for the future. We could see signs of promise from our team ofjust two seniors and two juniors. Looking back upon the 1973 soccer season, we the players, coach, and spectators are proud ofthe success that we achieved. We didn't win any championships, however, we did defeat some prominent teams along our way to making ourselves known throughout the league. i SPOR TS We the basketball players of the 73- 74 Heatly Basketball team feel we can hold our heads high. Winning or losing We displayed excellent sportsmanship and let our actions on the basketball court speak for us. Although at times we became discouraged as our quest for first place slipped away in the waning moments of the season. We overcame this disappointment to end our season with a moral victory defeating a prominent team. About once a week, on game night, the life ofa basket- ball uniform becomes one of the most fascinating exis- tences possible. On that night, the uniform is neatly folded and tucked into the gym bag for what will seem an endless journey to the locker room. Upon reaching the locker room, the uniform is placed on the bench while its owner prepares to don it. From the moment the player is in his uniform, his emotional prepara- tion for the game has begun. He begins to suffer what is known in the world of sports as pre-game jittersf' How- ever, once in the game, his uniform, moist with perspira- tion, the player enjoys the challenge of fierce competition. Then, at the game's end, the uniform once again be- comes a symbol, this time of either defeat or victory. If, upon reaching the confines of the locker room, the player hurls it to an unpleasant destiny, one can sense that the game has been an effort in futility. However, if this garment is gently slipped off and neatly strung over the locker door, one can be just as sure that the ultimate goal has been achieved: c'Victory.
