Our band has become one of the high lights of the Music Department despite the fact of having much difficulty in acquiring a permanent director. Our last year's director, Mrs. Margaret Kelley, received a position as Music Supervisor in Paducah City Schools, thus leaving the position vacant to be filled by a Murray grad- uate, Miss Thyra Creekmur. Miss Creekmur, after deciding she preferred keeping house to teaching school, left the position to Mr. Charles Farmer, another Murray graduate, who is our director at present. NVith a large percentage of experienced mem- bers, along with equally as many inexperienced ones, the band has grown into one of accom- plished and skilled musicians. Repairs were made on all the instruments and several new ones were added at the beginning of the year. A different type of music such as concert music, overtures, and waltzes, was played this year as compared with the marches played heretofore.
