SENIOR MERRY-GO-ROUND The Senior Merry-Go-Round started whirl- ing in the year of 1934-35 under the guidance of Mrs. Margaret Kelley. Amid shouts of laughter and good times, officials were elected. Watkins Morris was manager aided by Clyde H. Long as assistant and Joseph Harting as cashier. Our honors were few as we were not experienced in this new enterprise. We were proud to haul the first load of gravel for our new building. Our hopes and ambitions grew as the horses of the Merry-Go-Round galloped on and on. Our second exciting ride began in '35-'36 as we mounted to our saddles and faced a sopho- more year full of eager anticipation. Officials were Elbert Davis manager, Warren Martin assistant, Ann Roth and Franklin Lax cashiers. Mr. B. K. Dowell mounted in the lead and we were off. This year we accomplished much and gained the name of Workers . We built more sidewalks than any other class. We watched our new building grow from a pile of bricks and cement to a beautiful structure. The third great ride on the Heath Merry- Go-Round included the winning year of '36-'37. Mr. Dowell sprang into the saddle, followed by Roy Stewart as manager, John E. Harting as assistant, and Ann Roth and Doris Marley as cashiers. During the fair we gained the lead in the class contest and held it for the rest of the year. It was our pleasure to entertain the Seniors with a banquet where the Pirate theme pervaded the menu and decorations. While in a dramatic mood we presented Drums of Death which brought a record breaking crowd. XVe were presented the trophy as winner of the class contest. The last and greatest lap finished in '37-'38. Mr. John Koon was a splendid leader aided by Manager Roy Stewart, Assistant Lansdel Carneal, Cashiers Ann Roth and Doris Marley. Off to a flying start, the class published an exceptional annual. One swell time was enjoyed by all who went to Fort Massac on an outing. An unusual Senior play was put over the footlights to a large audience. Owing to increased responsi- bilities, we found it harder to keep the Merry- Go-Round going cheerfully as in the former rides, also that life is made up of these joys and sorrows that must be taken in our ride. We were entertained royally as Georges and Marthas, on February 22, by the Juniors. Just before the whistle blew for our last ride to stop we enjoyed the thrills of graduation week -Class Night, Baccalaureate Sermon, and finally Graduation. Never will we forget these days spent together on the old school campus, figura- tively called our Merry-Go-Round.
