Biology I and II are devoted to the study of life and the gaining of knowledge of the life around us. In first year Biology, the student is introduced to life by the study of plants and animals ranging from the simple amoeba to much higher forms of life. In Biology II, pupils are given further insight into this complex subject. For those who want abetter under standing of the elements and objects about us, Chemistryis offered. Here students study and then are given the opportunity to try what they have learned in it by experiments during lab sessions. Physics is a science that deals with matter and motion and includes mechanics, heat, light electricity, and sound. 19

Communication is important not only within our own country, but also between countries. The study of language helps a student to better understand the people of other countries. At Heath, students are offered courses in Spanish and French. During the first two years basic fundamentals are taught and each student gains some knowledge of the country's history. For those who wish to continue this study, thir d and fourth year courses are given in which students translate plays and write term papers. . One of the basic ne c e s s itie s for all who wish to succeed is communication. Whether or not a student intends to continue his education after high school he will find that his ability to communicate will be improved and increased by a knowledge of proper English. During a student's first two years at Heath, English courses stress grammar, with some literature. Later, he may choose between college and business English.
