ER FFICERS Commander Martin graduated from the U. S. Naval Academy in 1941. Upon graduation he reported to the U. S. S. MISSISSIPPI for duty. He was transferred to the U. S. S. NEVADA in 1942 and served on the NEVADA through- out the war, taking part in the invasions of Attu, Normandy, Southern France, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. ln 1946 the Captain was sent to the U. S. S. COLORADO as gunnery officer, and served there until the COLORADO was decom- missioned. He was then attached to the NROTC Unit, Uni- versity of Oklahoma, and later had his first taste of de- stroyers serving as Executive on the U. S. S. WILSON. From 1950 to May 1953, Commander Martin served with the Armed Forces Special Weapons Project, Albuquerque, N. M. He reported directly to the HEALY shortly before this cruise. Lieufenanf C. S. SWIFT, U. S. N. Execufive Officer Commander TOM B. MARTIN, JR., U. S. N. Commanding Officer Lieutenant Swift graduated from the U. S. Naval Acad- emy, Class of 1944. He reported to the U. S. S. NEW ORLEANS where he served in the engineering department until 1946. He was then transferred to the U. S. S. VALLEY FORGE. In 1947 Mr. Swift entered the U. S. N. Post Grad- uate,School, Annapolis, Md. and upon graduation served as engineering officer on the U. S. S. POWER until 1951. He next served on the staff of Comdesron 12 as material officer. As well as knowing his engineering, having spent 7M years in it, he knows his wrestling. While at the Academy he was heavyweight wrestling champ, and in 1952 he tried out for the Olympic team. Unfortunately a broken foot prevented his going to Helsinki. ln September 1952 he reported to the HEALY as executive officer.
