Besides the deck force, or Mapes as some call them, the Second Division contains its specialists. The Sonar crew which hides up in its mysterious dark room on the bridge, and the Torpedo Gang who take care of the Depth Charges and those five garish which they iinally got around to shooting. All in all, that group which rules aft of frame 72 is a large, busy, versatile, noisy and happy collection of White hats. THIRD DIVISION BAROOOMH a deafening roar and a blind- ing orange flash, the Third Division has just cut loose With a 5 gun salvol An idea that grew into reality, the Third Division was formed over a year ago of fire controlmen and the 5 X38 gunners mates This is the crew that has the job of keeping the 5 f38 battery and the complex fire control systems in top operating con- d1t1on The MGun Shack, a blower room the gunneris mates have remodeled, IS the hub of their activities. This small and bustling space serves as a workshop, armory, technical library, coffee mess, and general hangout for the gun gang The fire controlmen have their headquarters down where the heart of the main battery is kept. From Plot, with IIS mechanical monster the Mk IA com- puter, the iire controlmen go forth to keep the many intricate and complicated mechanisms that control our fighting arm in shape Despite a traditional feud about who has the most important job the gunner s mates and fire control- men show their ability to cooperate each time the ship goes to G , .
