The organization called HEALTH OCCUPATIONS STUDENTS OF AMERICA allows students that are interested in the health care field to associate with students of the same interest from other areas and states. HOSA helps to develop competent leadership skills in the health care field through implementing, planning, and participating in well-rounded programs. In addition the area, state, and national conven- tions take place each year. The purposes of HOSA are: lj help develop self-confidence, 23 give the student the chance to make a realistic career selection, 31 give the student the opportunity to have fun while broadening hisfher horizons, 4y give the student a chance to further develop a respect for education in the health field, and 55 help to educate the students in the skills of living. HOSA also provides a means for member to develop leadership qualities by planning and implementing well-rounded programs in the maintenance of wellness, prevention of illness, and care of illness within the home, school and community. Most of the HSHP chapters of HOSA attended the Garland Leadership Conference, the Area III HOSA Convention in Fort Worth, and the State HOSA Convention at Northpark Inn in Dallas this year.
