To lead them through this hectic last year, they put at the helm of their class, President Ronnie Dick. His co-officers were Vice President, Phil Conrang Secretary-Treasurer, Barbara Sauersg and Yell Leader, Tim Ganow. Merry Christmas Ba1l was the theme of their Senior Dance. A huge silver Christmas tree was their centerpiece, and a glittering mirror ball revolved slowly overhead. Preceding the dance was the senior dinner, and turkey headed the menu, Following this there were many more exciting activities: the Kiwanis Luncheon, Senior Breakfast, Senior Cut Day, Baccalaureate, and last of all Commencement Exercise and their farewell party. These are the same timid little freshmen who entered the halls of wisdom, a little awed by the seniors, but deter- mined to show the upper classmen that they too could be outstanding. After surviving the initiation, they put aside their shyness and chose their first leaders. They elected Reggie Elgin, President: Phil Conran, Vice Presidentg Nancy Poore, Secretary-Treasurer: and Tin Ganow, Yell Leader. As their sophomore year began, they were dismayed to find that in the new high school they were once again the lower classmen. Nevertheless, with a year of experience behind them, they were able to choose competent leaders for a good all-round year. Phil Conran was voted President. His helpers were Merle Osborn, Vice Presidentg Barbara Sauers, Secretary-Treasurerg and Tim Ganow, Yell Leader. During the year they held their first social e- vent, the annual Sophomore Hop. Their theme was Underwater Paradise' and their centerpiece, a reclining mer- maid, was much talked about. As the year ended, they were proud to have been the first sophomore class at l-l.S.H.S. Juniors and upper classmen at last! After appropriately welcoming the sophomores, they settled down to business. First on their agenda was the election of class officers. John Fay was chosen Presidentg Bonnie Doyle, Vice Presidentg Sandy Duden, Secretary-Treasurer: and Tim Ganow, Yell Leader. The first dance of the year was their Junior Dance, held in November. The theme was Thanksgiving, and the centerpiece, an overflowing Cornucopia, was symbolic of the occasion. Their stage decorations, consisting of a live turkey, received many pleasant comments. Next they had the big job of the Junior-Senior Prom. Their theme was Oriental Fantasy, and their centerpiece was a series of lakes surrounded by shrubbery and crossed by an oriental bridge, Everyone agreed that it was one of the most beautiful dances yet given at l-lealdsburg High. Now as their senior year comes to an end, they are a little sad to leave behind four wonderful years: but they have many cherished memories that will remain with them throughout life. 16 551 ii.- Y' ,X 's 'QTY' fd' Q96 Q ao W 'Y r -3 ,Q iw., 'fvfr-er hh' ETP' 1. To help the students leam more about art, a series of films on the subject was shown. Since observation is the key to know- ledge, the club members'took a trip to San Francisco to visit such places as the Legion of Honor, the DeYoung Museum, and the Academy of Natural Science. To dis- play their ability, the Art Clubbers made screen printed Christmas cards, posters advertising the Mothers' Club Fashion Show, and they held an art exhibit for the Mothers' Club in early April. SONOMA The Greyhounds lost to the Sonoma Dragons by 16 points. Although the score favored the Dragons, Healdsburg out- classed and outplayed the Dragons in the second half. Defense weakness allowed Sonoma to trample over the Hounds the first half. During halftime the Hounds' defensive play was straightened out, and they came back to smother Sonoma SAN RAFAEL In their first league game the Greyhounds were whipped by the San Rafael Bulldogs. San Rafael gave the appear- ance of being able ro make a touchdown whenever they pleased. Healdsburg's lone tally came in the final half on a pass play from Millerstrom to Hartman. PETALUMA The second league game of the season found the Healdsburg Greyhounds playing the Petaluma Trojans at Durst Field, Petaluma. This was a close contest: the Trojans winning by a single touchdown. The first Greyound touch - down was made when the Trojan halfback fumbled in his own end zone and Greyhound Jack French recovered the ball. The last Hound touchdown was made late in the fourth quarter. Pete Barbieri Phil Conran Mike Chipchase Rgdney On High Lights The only league game that the Greyhounds could mark up in the win column was their decisive victory over the Analy Tigers. This game, played amid a driving rain, was a cinch for the gusty Greyhounds. Holding a 26 -0 lead in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter, Coach Deliilippis sent in an almost completely new squad, thus giving everyone a chance to gain game experience. SONOMA The Sonoma Dragons defeated the Healdsburg Grey- hounds in the last league game of the season for the Hounds. Thr o ugho ut the first half the Greyhounds held the Dragons to a one -touchdown lead, butin the third quarter a 55 yard run by the Dragons' fullback gave Sonoma another tally. The Hounds closed out their 1956 North Bay League Section II play with a one win, three loss record. UKIAH The Hounds next to last game of the season was played against the Ukiah Wildcats at Ukiah. Both Ukiah and Healdsburg scored in the second quarter. The Wild- cats' point after touchdown was made, but Healds- burg's was not. Later in the game a Hound touchdown was called back: and the game ended, a heartbreak- ing 7 -6. ALUMNI In their final game of the season the Greyhounds met the Alumni under the lights of Recreation Park. The game was a closely fought contest, the score at the end of the half being 0-0. In the final three minutes of the third quarter the Hounds scored from the Alum- ni eight-yard line and the conversion try was good. The Hounds scored again in the fourth quarter on a hand off from Millerstrom to Hartman. Although the Alumni were in there trying, the experience and sta- mina of the Hounds told the story. iff? nf' 5.1 CHAMPIONSHIP B TEAM IQNIEPLING, Left to R1ght Coach Chff McKea.y, Terry Campbell, Duane DeLong, Paul Vogt, Roy McGa1n, Truman Clark.
