Although it is our wish that this dedication will repay that person for her untiring efforts toward the improvement of Healdsburg High School and its students, we know that it will never quite do so. With this thought we, the journalism Class of 1948, gratefully dedicate this SOTOYOMAN to Mrs. Irene Long. mx '-2 Kai li Si' ibm wif? . if 7' .W1 Y 27 555s CQ! HW ps '04 'wi me ui: Q4 Q fs. Your life will be filled with tremendous responsibilities, but you are far richer than I. You have in you the old and the new, and the east and west, the farm and the factory. In you is the world toward which you and I strive. In you lies the possibility of the achievement of peace. The essential thing is not to try to make people over in your own image, but to understand them. In this struggling self-doubting age of ours, we must all do our bestg we must all try to reach our highest abilitiesg not out of pride, but because our best is just barely good enough. May good fortune go with you. E. B. CHRISTENSEN Prinfifml BOARD OF TRUSTEES LEFT TO RIGHT: Chester Frost, F. V. Kellogg, William j. Massoni, E. B. Christensen, Louis Schwab, Williani L. Beedie. A great deal of time and effort was spent to give you the best yearbook we are capable of producing. The rise in prices has been the only factor that could possibly have limited our dreams for the best annual in the history of Healdsburg High School. We hope that this book will be symbolic of all the pleasures and hard work which we have shared during the past year of our school life. In years to come, may it be looked upon as a treasure to recall the happy memories nt Healdsburg High School. SAR'H FESSENDIZN DOROTHY TURNER MR. Under the leadership of our advisors, Miss Petty, Mr. Fletcher, and Mr. Vogt, and the class officers, Ernie Frandsen, president, David Gilbert, vice-president, and Stella Rossi, secretary-treasurer, the class participated in many events which characterized the year. One of the money-raising activities the juniors sponsored was the selling of pop and hot dogs at the football and basketball games. The evening of October 24 found the Juniors and their guests at the Junior Dance, which successfully carried through the theme of Hallowe'en in a graveyard. Keith Walker was dance chairman, and Arlene joliff de- signed the programs. Of course, our big affair was the Junior-Senior Prom. Even the Seniors had to admit that the affair was very successful. And now we can look forward to our Senior, and last, year, the goal we've worked toward since we were Freshmen. HL' SOPHGMORE CLASS To start the year off right, we gave the annual Freshman reception the first Friday of school. On that afternoon the newcomers were fair sport for any roving Sophomores, and we certainly took advantage of the occasion. Meeting at a class assembly the next week, we elected David Manley, presidentg Richard Jacobson, vice-presidentg Laura Marsala, secretary- treasurerg and Barbara Basford, yell leader. We elected Russell Ruona- vaara and Gloria Pedroncelli to the Student Council, and Roger Pierce to the Merit Committee. Our social success of 'the year was the Sophomore Hop. The entire school was invited to dance in the gaily decorated auditorium. The French street scene theme was carried out complete with awnings and tables. Next year we intend to keep the school hopping when we return as upperclassmen. One hundred twenty- five strong, we met the Sophomores with hearty enthusiasm which proved to be of little avail. However, we were far from disheartened so . . . We elected Peter Worden, presidentg Neil Penry, vice-president, Nancy Rich, yell leader, and Ruth Elaine Oakleaf, secretary-treasurerg and proceeded to tackle the work before us. We've donated our share of the athletes, scholars, and fun to old Healdsburg High, and nobody can say we haven't worked. Homework, teachers, exams, and all the rest that goes with high school life has been new and difhcult. We've managed to pull through, however, and are looking forward to being Sophomores this fall. We are certain that these memories will never be forgotten. We will remember the rallies, dances, games, and the other school ac- tivities. We will even recall the hours we spent doing homework, as we are grateful that we have had an opportunity to obtain an education.
