Their reward was a winning season. Unity leads to VICTORY. If it worked the first time let's do it again. Keith Arnold turns upheld against Opp. Eddie Brown gets tough when the going gets rough. Bruce Rowland finds the going tough. A play Loyce Reeves will never forget. 91 For the Headland Rams, 1980 was a year to remember. The Rams closed out the season with the best record in the history of HHS, as you can see by the enthusiasm in their faces. According to their coach, believing in one's self, working together, and confidence in each other made them the winning team that they were. 92 COACHES Kneeling-Girls' Sports Coach, Marsha Brown; Head Football Coach, Howard Holland; Standing-Jr. Varsity Basketball and Track Coach, Jim Murrey; Varsity Basketball Coach, Steve Williams; Jr. High Basketball Coach, Al Griffin 93 1980-81 VARSITY CHEERLEADERS Co-captain—Jennifer Adams Laurie Parrish Wanda Floyd Co-captain-Ginger Singleton Teresa Wilkerson 95 JUNIOR VARSITY FOOTBALL j c U H N E I E 0 R R L E A D E R S Captain—Dede Crews, Joy Smith, Jennifer Fain, Krista Shelley, Angie Foldger IAIV31 dOINfir IAIV31 a VARSITY BASKETBALL 1980-81 Eddie Brown-G Steve Danzey-F Bobby McGlown-G Jerome Pearce-C Maurice Culver-G 100 Kyle Stovall-F Kenneth Thornton-G Sammy Jackson-F Statisticians and Managers Trice aims for two in an effort to break the 1,000 point barrier. 101 A Danzey hookshot. The Rams were WAC champions and remained in the top five rankings for the entire season. At each game there were spectacular plays, and moments the fans will always remember. We are very proud of our team. They are winners on and off the court. Even though the 1981 team didn't go to State they are still the champs. They're the Best! 103 GIRLS BASKETBALL 1980-81 Paula Shelley-F Janet McCloud-F Lydia Fain-G Zandra Poke-G Lisa Weldon-G Patricia Minniefield-F Kim Gibbs-G 105 I The baseball team battled their way to the finals by beating Straughn for the Area Championship and then beating J.F. Shields of Beatrice for the Region Title. Holtville was the next victim as Headland continued through the semi-finals victoriously and met West Blockton for the State Championship. After winning the first of the best of three series, the Rams fell short of the title dropping a double header and had to settle for the Runner-up trophy. The disappointment was short lived as the team reflected on what had been the best season in the school's history. 109 TRACK TEAM Girls-Second in State L to R-Byron King, Fredrick Brantley, Eddie Brown, and Mike Reynolds L to R-Kneeling; Lisa Weldon, Debra Carroll, Standing; Mary Salter, Kim Gibbs, Clara Salter, and Charlotta Gibbs 110 Headland High Marching Rams Angerine Pope Kneeling: Reporters, Robin Rushing, April Glasgow, Alicia Enfinger. The deadlines have been met, the pictures have been taken, the layouts have been done, and another La Resume has been published. We have worked days (and sometimes nights) typing, working on layouts, making pictures fit. There is a strong sense of accomplishment in knowing that the bits and pieces have fit together in creating an assortment of lasting images that will provide moments of enjoyment for all of us. Having been a part of the creation of a sort of time capsule of the school year 1980-81 means a lot to me as a Senior. It's the ending of one goal and the beginning of other goals for me. I would like to express my thanks to the annual staff for hanging in there with me while I complained and sometimes expected too much. Thank you, Sandy, Shannon, and Linda, Senior staff members; Paula, Jennifer, Sherry, Lydia, and Ginger, Junior staff members; Teresa and Susan, Sophomore staff members. Thanks to Mrs. Hartzog, our new sponsor, who helped us out when we were down and really needed it. Thanks also to Mrs. Sowell and Mrs. Trammell who helped us get started. I would like to thank Mrs. Holman for allowing us to use her beautiful home as a setting for photographs. This annual is the endeavor of many hands and many minds. We hope we have somehow captured the spirit of 1981 and of the students and faculty of Headland High School, bringing to mind all the good memories and good times. 134 Tina Baher Livingston 136 146 150 Compliments of Manager Don Johnson Phone 693-3600 431 Bypass Headland, Alabama The Headland National Bank Your community bank since 1933 Phone 693-3352 Compliments of ESPY MERCANTILE ESPY FERTILE CO., INC.
