Back row, Sherrie Jackson, Gwin Jones, Jackie Powell, and Rhonda Hartley. 21 HEADLAND HIGH FACULTY The dictionary defines faculty as Teachers of a school, college, or university. In a definition such as this, there is no room for warmth, optimism, wit, or error ... no room left for being human, and every HHS teacher is human. They teach us about life, about others, and most of all about ourselves. In a sense these are the people that create Headland High School. MR. CUSTODIANS RAYMOND MATHIS DUBB BUTLER LUNCHROOM WORKERS CUSSES September to May, We'll have moments to remember. The spirit stick we won made us second to none. We'll have these moments to remember. The snake walk, the noisy fun, the pep rallies we usually won, We'll have these moments to remember. Though winter turns to spring and the present disappears, The laughter we were glad to share will echo through the years. We'll have these moments to remember. Among the several projects accomplished by the Honor Society, the most outstanding were furnishing and decorating the Christmas tree, recognizing students achieving the A honor roll, and the induction of new members. 90 SGA The Student Government Association is an organization composed of students elected by a constituency of fellow students. Every student in the school has a voice in the student affairs through homeroom representatives. Since the first SGA was established in 1930, its goal has been to bring the SGA closer to the student body. Under the leadership of Sharon Stovall, President, and Mr. Clarence Peterman, sponsor, we have moved closer to achieving this goal. Officers: (left to right) Bernestine Bradley—Reporter, Cay Bridges-Vice-President, Kellie McGriff-Secretary, Sharon Stovall—President. 91 We have 50 members in our Headland High School FBLA Chapter. We had many successful projects this year which included: a homecoming car (smash the Bulldogs project), selling Christmas candles, planting flowers in front of the auditorium, and sponsoring a Christmas dance. One of the major objectives of FBLA is to develop self-confidence and a strong, agressive business leadership so that these future businessmen and women may participate more effectively in the business and community life of which they are soon to be an integral part. FBLA also serves as an effective means of bringing students together to deal with vocational preparation, national problems, community improvement, and worthwhile relationships with local, state, and national groups interested in the welfare of youth. A head start toward special education, self-development and a career. NJROTC helps you take that extra step toward confidence and leadership. Toward valuable training in space-age subjects. And there's more. NJROTC gives you a sense of pride at being an important part of the defense of your country. Plus that special feeling of personal accomplishment that comes from knowing that you qualified, that you met and equaled the Navy's high standards for becoming a cadet in NJROTC. 101 Color Guard: Lumaris Reynolds, Austin McArdle, Chap Gray, and Sherrie Newman. AMY CAY CO-EDITORS We'd like to express our appreciation to Tom Neal and Herff Jones for their excellent work in publishing our annual To the Headland Observer for providing us with pictures that we so desperately needed To Mrs. Rosalyn Trammell for her guidance and patience as our advisor and friend To the 1978 LaResume staff for their willingness to work and their unsurpassable amount of enthusiasm, and to Tina for her accomplishments as business manager To Mrs. Zona Gayle Baxter and Winston Griggs for their understanding To the merchants and sponsors who made our efforts possible Special thanks to Al Stillman and Robert Lamm Chicago for providing us with the lyrics that express our feelings. We would personally like to dedicate the 1978 LaResume to the Freshmen, for it was their year of beginning; to the Sophomores, for it was their year of awakening; to the Juniors, for it was their year of expectation; and to the Seniors, for although it was our year of dreams, opportunities, and decisions, it was our year to prepare for a new beginning.
