Not only alive in the sense of acquiring an education also in the sense of sharing excitement, spreading happiness, and creating memo- ries . No matter what the occasion, all of us seem to understand that our time at HHS is limited, and it's this understanding that makes us develop the smallest occasion into a large affair. 3 THE GOINGS UP and the COMINGS DOWN Life at Headland High School hasn’t been a bed of roses. You can rest assured that we have done our best to make life as easy and fun as possi- ble, but along with the sweet must come the bitter. Whether it was a test or a ballgame in Georgianna, life certainly had its comings down. But being people of reasonable manner, we merely tucked away these bad times, pledged to do better the next time, and moved on down the line. 5 BETWEEN THE LINES Our lives at Headland High School have been filled with so much more than meets the eye. Much of our excitement just fell into place as we needed it, as our time demanded, but so much more went on between the lines. How we longed for Friday nights and football and basketball games that went with them. It was being with friends that made these times more unforgettable. 7 WE RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER U dfe fe 8 9 I WANT YOU TO 10 SHOW ME THE WAY 12 TAKE IT TO THE LIMIT, FOR . . . 13 WE MA Y NEVER PASS 14 THIS WAY AGAIN DO YOU FEEL 16 TOP BEAUTIES CHOSEN The Miss La Resume was more than just a beauty pageant. It will hold a place of fond memo- ries in the minds of many beauti- ful young ladies. This was truly the highlight of their school year. Chosen from the Freshman Class was Babbie Lingo, from the Sophomore class Kellie McGriff, and from the Junior class Alice Knight. The Senior Beauty was Leigh Livingston and the top yearbook beauty was Tina Ste- phenson . 20 IN MISS LA RESUME 21 MISS BRONZE 1977 The 2nd Annual Miss Bronze Pageant, one of Henry County’s most influential pageants, turned out with Sharon Stovall, a junior at Headland High, as Miss Bronze of 1977. Her attendants Devry Hamilton and Vickie Williams are also students at Headland High. 22 Miss Headland. . . 1976-77 1st Alternate Miss Headland 2nd Alternate Gretchen Guest Tina Stephenson Leigh Livingston 23 MR. LIONS BOWL QUEEN Robyn Weeks HOMECOMING '76 GENERA TE8 26 EXCITEMENT AND ANTICIPA TION 27 AS THE EXCITEMENT 28 MOUNTED, SPIRITS ROSE Homecoming week was truly an exciting week. Everyday our anticipation for the game Friday night grew and grew. A schedule of daily events led by the cheer- leaders kept us in the best of spirits Thursday night with the announcement of the Homecom- ing Queen, Beth McClenny, and the bonfire, the Rams were des- tined for an inevitable victory. 29 LONG ANTICIPA TED QNOW The 1976-77 winter was an unusual one for the entire U.S. and Headland was no exception. We had the coldest temperatures yet to be experienced by most citizens of this area. On Jan. 18, school was dismissed early due to snow. On that date there was no accumulation, but we were out of school until the following Monday by request of the gas companies. On Sunday night, Jan. 30, the snow began again, and by morning the ground was covered, and we were out of school again. Due to the days missed, the closing date of school was changed to June 3. 3! RAMS WIN 48 AREA CHAMPIONSHIP With a 7-4 record, the 1976 Rams finished the most successful season ever for a Headland football team. After an early season loss to Cottonwood, the Rams were thought by many to be out of the state playoff race. During October, the main topic of conversation around H. H. S. was what had to happen for the Rams to gain birth in the playoffs. Everyone knew that our team had to pull together and . . . WIN. 49 RAMS MAKE STATE PLAYOFFS. . . FIRST TIME IN H.H.8. HISTORY Except for a disappointing loss to the Ashford Yellow Jackets, the Rams did win. When Abbeville defeated Cottonwood, the stage was set for the game of the year ; Headland VS. Abbeville, for the Area Championship. In the most emotional game of our lives, the Rams defeated Abbeville and gained a berth in the playoffs. On a very cold night in Georgianna, Ala., the Rams saw their first action. After an extremely good showing in the first half, Headland fell behind in the fourth quarter, losing 13- 7. 51 17-14. . . This is attributed to the overwhelming desire of each player, be that player starter or substitute. They were second in the conference with a 7-1 record, losing only to Rehobeth, the conference champs. The coming year will be one of rebuilding, if such is possible in Junior High Football, the Baby Rams have only one starter returning. 57 VARSITY BASKETBALL 1976-77 Left to right: Russel Feggins, Johnnie Mac Bighems, Larry Morris, Jerry McKay, Larry Hand, Mark Anthony, James Holston, Philip Ready, 2nd ROW: Terry Hill, Frederick Rhodes, Jimmy Folds, Willie Tullis, Jerry Thomas, James Danzey, Coach Steve Williams. By whipping Ashford 54-33, they wrapped up their third straight WAC Championship with almost two weeks left in the regular season. The Rams fin- ished second in the Dothan High Invitational and handily won the Conference Tournament. By great togetherness and willing- ness to work, the Rams have stormed through most opponents while losing only 2 games to date. They have beaten Abbe- ville 3 times, Ashford twice, Troy 51-49, Ozark 73-57, and also a very good Enterprise team. 60 RAMS DEMOLISH OPPOSITION AND LOOK TO STATE PLAYOFFS Surely, some of this success is due to the undying efforts of Coach Steve Williams. He has compiled an amazing record of 183-55 since coming to Head- land . This makes him one of the top coaches in the state. In his words - The 1976-77 team has demonstrated great togetherness and team spirit. I have enjoyed working with them very much because they have the sense of 'we' not T. At this time the Rams are looking to the close of the season with only one goal in mind: Winning the state 2-A Championship. 63 B AND JR. BASKETBALL TEAMS STANDING, Left to right: J. Holston, G. The team improved greatly and gained experience which will be invaluable in the coming year. The track team, among their other victories, won the Conference championship, was runner-up in the sectional meet, and made a trip to the state meet. The 1977 season promises to be even better. All the members of last year's team are returning except two. Our main goal is win- ning first place in the 2-A division of the state track meet. James Danzey was the unanimous choice of both players and coaches for the most valuable player award for 1976. James won first place in the long and triple jump in every meet he participated in except the first two and the state meet, where he took third in the long and triple jumps, 65 1976-77 STANDING, Left to right: Coach Rhodes, M. Their slogan, The Marching Rams Keep Moving On was heard before and after all ball games. With Determination the band showed much improvement over the past year, and in the future, bigger and better things are expected. HONOR GUARDS: Barbara Vickers, Fay Mathis, Rosalyn Bradley. Being the faculty they have become important figures in our lives. Young and old they are only interested in helping us succeed with our futures. As always most of them are our friends as well as our teachers. We came to realize that they had the same problems that we had when they were younger, so through experience their advice was greatly needed. Some of us may go through life wondering about the thing or things we could have done in high school. But always in our minds our teachers will be an important asset in our lives. 100 LUNCHROOM WORKERS LUNCHROOM WORKERS: From left to right: Ella V. With two years to go, we will always remember this saying as we continue to travel on this long journey. 121 WELL TREASURE This year, we the Jr. class realized what being a Junior meant. The things we experi- enced were not new, but in a sense, different. The feeling that we had only one year to go gave us a cold chill, but the feeling of accomplishment, that we had made it this far, kept us warm. We were able to enjoy ourselves, knowing that this year would not be the last. We know that we will never be able to do all the things we have planned, but still we took things slow and easy, because we still had time. As Jrs., we found ourselves all the way up the ladder except for one rung, which we reluctantly take hold of. But we do take hold, always remembering what being a Jr. at HHS did for us. We have made countless steps through these halls, spent unending hours in the classrooms, cheered our teams to victory, and felt their sorrows in defeat. As we live each day, we realize we are one day closer to the end, that elu- sive moment of GRADUATION! 42 It is the earnest desire of the La Resume staff that this photo- graphic summary will preserve those special occasions and even those ordinary days that compose this 1976-77 school year. The cooperation, effort, feel- ing, and thought of the entire annual staff have been poured into transforming these pages from an idea into a reality. For the under-classmen, this year represents just a step in their yet-to-be-completed future at Headland High School, but for the Seniors, it is a final curtain call for their grandest perform- ance.
