We were a conglomeration of traits; a potpourri of special talents and values. We agreed to pool our qualities and make 1975-76 a year to remember. It was vowed no day should pass without a certain amount of laughter and our dream of an easy year should not be discarded without a great deal of trying. 3 4 IN ORDG TO FORM AMORFFFRFFCT UNION 5 N0LD1UBCB IWUlUClOBQ. We found ourselves searching for the answers raised in the past. We turned to each other, together looking for some clue that would somehow link us to the glorious past wistfully spoken of by our elders. As we walked the halls of HHS, as we opened our textbooks, as we cheered our team to victory, and as we studied at home, the words Spirit of 76 were not far away. Little by little, as the very nature of the words was drummed into our heads, they became more than mere words, they were representing a special time, one we soon learned was also unique. There was a sudden revival of early customs and our vocabulary was broadened to include such words as shivarees and threshings and words like patriotism, loyalty, and freedom took on new meanings. Piece by piece we put together the puzzle of the past and felt the determination, sincerity, and yearning our forefathers had when they founded this great country. We held the past in our hands and learned for the future . . . and we vowed to improve. This WAS our year. 15 16 The Miss LaResume contest, held in April of 1975 was sponsored by the Journalism class. The purpose of the contest was to select the top yearbook beauty along with her court which consisted of one girl from the Junior and Sophomore classes. The top beauty for the LaResume 1976 is Lisa Whiddon. Cathy Henderson represents the Junior class while the Sophomore class beauty is Renae Evans. $tANNUAL MICC LA 20 REQU IAB. . . Girls from all over the county vied in evening gown and talent competition. Headland's own Miss Deborah Corbitt walked away with top honors. Deborah is a lovely and talented Senior at Headland High School. 23 The Miss Headland pageant of September 1975 was more than just a beauty pageant. It will hold a place of fond memories in the minds of nine beautiful young ladies. Many hours of hard practice and much preparation established a sense of togetherness between the contestants. This was truly the highlight of their Senior year. CTTBMBNT Homecoming 1975-76 was a time of fun, hard work and great rewards. The members of SGA worked diligently along with the student body to make this Headland's greatest Homecoming. And how could it be anything else with a 28 to 6 victory over Hartford? This was the Rams' first Homecoming victory in three years. It was truly a game to remember. 26 NOMBCOM1N . . . 1975-76 The highlight of the Homecoming festivities was Thursday night when Nedra Hamilton was announced as Homecoming Queen. She was to reign over the activities of the coming day. Nedra's court included: Kay Watson and Vernitha Kirkland, Senior Attendants; Tina Stephenson and Priscilla Johnson, Junior Attendants: Alice Knight and Glenda Culver, Sophomore Attendants: Kellie McGriff and Bemestine Bradley, Freshman Attendants. 27 FLOATS • . . BO. . 28 PARADE. . .VICTORY Knowing that this was the Seniors’ last Homecoming made it a little more special. Their willingness to pitch in to make Homecoming successful reflected their unity and responsibility as Seniors and helped to establish togetherness between all classes. 29 fc auB oajbhuwt By a majority vote of the Key Club members, Lisa Whiddon was chosen as Key Club Sweetheart for 1975-76. Lisa is currently cheerleader captain, Miss LaResume and 2nd alternate to Miss Headland. She will compete later this year in a statewide pageant. To anyone who followed the Rams it was clear that the team was even better than their 6-4 record. Our team surprised many people in the area, for with a new coach and a young team the Rams were not expected to finish as well as they did. tNFOU V RC 42 BEHIND LEADERjQHTP 43 OLmrmmac tvujq 44 DBFBNOVB Cm — CmLJOUNCON 45 ANOf AD CCAO-f The highlight of the season was the Lion's Bowl. The Rams played W. S. Neel, of Brewton, and won the game in two overtimes. This was one of the most exciting games ever played by a Headland team and it took on special meaning for the Seniors who played their last game in the Lion’s Bowl. In 1975 Coach Singleton’s Rams showed through their hard work, determination, and effort, the spirit of HHS. 46 CNBRRJLL CtNGLBTON 47 7m U DIAND f-ttGU Over the past year the Headland High School Marching Rams have been active in all school functions. The main ingredients making this team so successful were the morale, togetherness, and team-work exhibited by the players. The players worked very hard to do what was necessary to win and be a championship team. The Seniors provided the team leadership - so necessary for good team morale and spirit. 59 TOWARD A 60 WINNING QEACON Surely Coach Steve Williams is to be commended for this fine team. He is the top coach in the area and surely the Rams will always be a power in the region. So far the highlight of the season was the winning of the Conference Tournament with a big 54-30 victory over arch-rival Ashford. At the time this was written the Rams were 21-3 and were looking to ending the season on a good note. 61 STANDING, LEFT TO RIGHT: Coach Singleton, R. Feggins, C. Johnson, J. Medley, W. Tullis, G. This year they are missing 4 starters but have some players coming up with plenty of experience, so they should be in good shape for the coming season! 63 MjNn 0 3 rtssssRS Q. A. The members of S. G. A. this year worked diligently to improve relations between students and faculty. They also worked toward the goal of more student participation in school activities. In working toward this goal. the S. G. A. sponsored many activities such as Homecoming and assemblies which were complete successes. The money for these activities was acquired by the intense efforts of the members in bake sales and shaker sales. The officers of S. G. A. for the 1975-76 year are: Tammy Armstrong - President, Lisa Whiddon - Vice-President, Renae Massey - Secretary, Kay Watson - Treasurer, and Shelley Davis - Reporter. 66 JOURWUC U Journalism is more than just a club; it is a working organization consisting of students whose time and effort were given to one major cause, the creation of a keepsake of memories. Throughout the year we became closer as we realized each others faults and discovered in each of us the desire for perfection. We learned, we gave of ourselves and in return, we published our thoughts and ideas in a book that will remain with us for the rest of our lives. 67 '7m RAMBLER,” This year was really a big year for the Rambler and its staff. The thing that was most important was the newspaper being published by Chancey Herring Publications at the end of each nine-weeks period. There was a lot of work that went into getting each article written to perfection. The staff hopes that everyone enjoyed each issue and will continue to enjoy them as a store of memories throughout the years. LEFT TO RIGHT: J. Parrish, K. McGriff, T. Arnold, A. Shelley, R. Mims, C.
