2 3 BEFORE THE RISING SUN WE 4 SO MANY ROADS TO CHOOSE. 5 WE START OUT WALKING AND LEARN TO RUN, SHARING HORIZONS THAT ARE NEW TO US; 8 WATCHING THE SIGNS ALONG THE WAY. 9 TALKING IT OVER JUST THE TWO OF US, 10 WHEN EVENING COMES WE’LL SMILE, 13 WE FIND A PLACE WHERE THERE’S ROOM TO GROW 14 With great pride and sincere ap- preciation we, the Seniors of 1971, dedicate our edition of the La Resume, to Mr. Chuck Nolen, whom we have come to know as a friend, and to admire as a person. Mr. Nolen is one who says nothing of his talents, but helps develop the talents of others; one who is liked for his humor; one who is willing to lis- ten; one who is willing to lend a helping hand when needed. In a small-way this dedication is our way of saying that his efforts have been appreciated. 16 FACULTY FACULTY FACULTY FACULTY FACULTY PRINCIPALS (Above) MR. COMER MOON Co-Principal 18 (Right) MR. Yet grad- uation. Yet graduation is much more. It is a feeling of excite- ment; but you will miss the pep rallies, school, parties and most of all the everyday relationships with friends. On May 27, all these were made memories to the Class of 1971. 73 We are but one step away from greatness and before the rest of the world knows it, we are going to take that step ... Hotchins THE 1971 TRACK TEAM The Headland Rams out scored Slocomb, Ashford and Abbeville for an undefeated regular track season. After their regular season victory the Rams ventured to Auburn where they took the championship in the A- 2A Sectional track meet. At the State track meet in Selma they came in fourth. On the second day of the conference track meet the Rams returned from Ab- beville for the second year in a row with the WAC Championship. (Front) E. Crittenden, A. Nowell, B. Hamil, G. Glover, S. Through hours of planning, picture-taking, cropping, copy- writing and checking, staff members pieced together the history of this year, 1970-1971, at Headland High School. IN MEMORIAM Tragedy in youth is one of the realities of life that we as young people have not learned to accept, especially when our friends and classmates are taken by unfortunate happenings. We find it hard to believe that one day we chat merrily together; the next, there is a vacant desk, an empty locker, an unanswer- ed roll. We can find comfort in these words from Tennyson, who also lost a friend; Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.
