Lawrence Kushmider, like all men, was many men, had many names. He was husband and father, and though he sorely missed coaching the swim- ming team after his retirement, he was glad, at least, of the extra hours he then could devote to his family. He was a coach and, by example, taught his boys the most important thing a coach can teach, how to win and lose with equal grace and gallantry. He was a citizen in the fullest meaning of the word. As a youth, he served his country willingly in her hour of most desperate need. As an adult, he continued to serve, through his membership in civic organizations and, especially through his service to youth. And, as a member of his church, he was a devoted servant of God. In short, as Mr. Lawrence Evangelista, our principal said, 'LLawrence Kush- mider was a good man. Now, this good man is gone. But, Lawrence Kushmider Was, first of all, a teacher. His students remember that he would sometimes tell them that the most important con- cepts in his classes were those dealing with character, with becoming a good man. His hope was that his students would remember those ideas, apply them, and pass them on to their own children. So long as they do that, Lawrence Kushmider's spirit will live and, truly, Death shall have no dominion.
