DR HENRYF PATERSON JR Dr Henry F Paterson Jr a native of Quincy Massachusetts was unan lmously elected Superintendent of the Hazleton Cltv School District by the Hazleton Clty School Board December 7 1959 to succeed Thomas L Hlnkle retired December 31 1959 Dr Paterson formerly was a supervising principal in the Qumcy Public Schools The new superintendent received his early education ln his home city H secured a Bachelor of Science degree at Bridgewater Teachers College and his Master s degree from Columbia and Boston UHlV6TS1lLl9S In 19.57 Dr Paterson was awarded a Doctor of Education degree from Boston University taught English and history He also acted as J umor High School basketball coach and varsity track coach Inducted into the U S Army ln 1941 he served five years in the armed forces part of which was spent in the European Theatre Operations where he held the position of Headquarters Commandant He was honorably dlscharged from the servlce in 1946 holding the rank of major in the U S Army Infantry Dr Paterson IS a member of the Kiwanis Club and American Legion Post He IS affiliated with the Hazleton Teachers Association PSEA NEA and Phi Delta Kappa a professional fraternity for men ln education He IS married to Jean Schatz a former Hazleton resident and teacher They have a daughter Denise The Janus Staff extends a hearty welcome to Dr Paterson and his famlly We hope he enjoys many years as superintendent of our school system 11 l a . 7 ' . . . . . . . . e His teaching experience began at North Quincy High School where he
