RICH Ph.B., M.A. B.S., M.A. English English On Thursday afternoon November 21, 1957, the Voice of Democracy Contest was held in the auditorium of the Hazleton Senior High School. The entire sophomore class and the public speaking classes were the audience for the event. Winners were determined by the content and originality of the speech and the contestants delivery. A student from St. Gabriel's High School, Francis McNelis, won first place and the right to compete in the state finals. Gerry Stish of H.H.S., who placed third last year, placed second. The nine finalists received certificates of merit and Voice of Democracy Keys. On December 12th they received addi- tional awards at the Jaycee Christmas Party. Judges of the contest were Rev. Francis Mussari, Rev. Lawrence Bottiger, Dr. Gerald Andreole, and Dr. Eugene Koval. 14
