CLASS FLOWER Rose CLASS COLORS Blue and White CLASS MOTTO From School Life to Life's School As the last year of the four happiest years in our lives draws near to the end, we pause to review in memory the highlights of those years. They are, of course, the years we spent here in Hazle Town- ship High School. Let us make note of these events in our Ancora of 1960, so that in the future, as these wonderful incidents seem to become blurred and fade from our minds, we may look back and relive the past. It was a warm, bright, sunny clay in September, 1956. Buses transported 134- happy and excited children to the building which was to become our shelter for four glorious years. Some faces we al- ready knew, but the majority were strange to us. Upon entering the anchorage, we were given di- rections, some to be followed during our freshman year, others throughout our entire high school life. But, this wasn't all. We were all handed schedule cards, and each was given his own school supplies. We took up our task with interest as we began our freshman year. Now realizing we were on the first deck of our ship, we had to settle down and be- come organized. As time went on, we gradually became acquainted with our surroundings, and found ourselves making many new friends. We dug into the stack of books set before us and discovered that high school life was more than play. Our class was grateful to receive as our class ad- visor, Mr. Stephen Dushanko, who so graciously accepted the position and guided us throughout our high school years. At our first class meeting, the following people were elected by a majority vote of the class to their respective positions: Steven Sannie, president, john Trathen, vice-president, Anthony Liott, secretary , and Frank DeBias, treasurer. Following our course, we started out very earn- estly to build up our treasury. We were at once given an offer to sell magazines. This project played la very important role in the history of our class because it was profitable and gave us a wonderful start. In our freshman year we also had a roller skat- ing party at the Arcadia Roller Skating Rink and a never-to-be forgotten trip to Rolling Green Park. As we reached the second deck of our ship, we found our courses of study to be much stiffer than in our freshman year. Although we were now on a higher level than we were a year ago, fundamen- tally, life was the same. Our sophomore year was more eventful. We sold chances and candy, held several dances, revived Sophomore Day, and made a wonderful trip to Hershey Park. Jdfdfty Our class ofiicers for the year were: George Greech, president Anthony Liott, vice-president: Sandra Adams, secretary, and Ruth Zeller, treas- urer. Before we realized it, our junior year had ar- rived. Our responsibilities were greater as upper- classmen. We started right in and tackled our problems squarely. The following ofiicers were elected: George Sunder, president, George Greech, vice-president, Betty Dushanko, secretary, and Georgine Grohol, treasurer. With the help of them and our advisor, our class was really making way to our destination - the 4th and highest deck of our ship. We again sold chances and candy, held several dances dur- ing the year for the purpose of building up our treasury, and received our beautiful class rings in time for Christmas. A group of junior girls gave a Christmas program for the school, and then we planned and practiced for our larger production, Junior Day. What a wonderful program it was! All our hopes and dreams of the past few years became a reality. The major and climaxing event of the year was a marvelous trip to Dorney Park. Complex tasks overpowered our crew as we were elevated to the 4th deck of our ship. Our senior year was begun with a hop held for the newcomers to our school, the freshmen. The following people were elected as class ofli- cers: George Greech, president, George Sunder, vice-president, Betty Dushanko, secretary, and Janet Horn, treasurer. We took orders and worked out our problems to the best of our ability. Our expenses were increased to a great extent, the largest being the financing of our Ancora. At once we set out and attacked the businessmen of the city and surrounding areas for ads in our yearbook. We appreciate their.co-opera- tion because without them this book would be im- possible. We sold Christmas cards, persuaded our parents and teachers to become sponsors, and en- couraged the willing underclassmen to purchase books. As Christmas drew near, we decorated and planned for our homeroom parties. Our class held its semi-formal in Genetti's Penn- sylvania Room the day following the New Year. The crowning of the snow queen was the main feature at this event. Music for the affair was pro- vided by the Casuals. Upon returning from the Christmas vacation, we found ourselves studying for the mid-year exams. Before we knew it, half of our top deck had been swept clean. We placed our orders for name cards, and were Htted for our graduation gowns. We realized we were nearer to our goal now than ever before. Upon completion of our great achievement, the Ancora of 1960, we look forward to the completion of our senior year with several major events that are to take place - a few dances, our second and last production, Senior Day, Senior Day Dance g the prom, and last, but most remote, our goal of graduation. Having reached our destination, we send the report on the four most outstanding years in our Q. lives to press. With these precious memories safely concealed and treasured in the depths of our hearts, we focus our minds on the future. What it holds for us, no one knows, but we heartily hope and pray that the guidance we received in the past will carry over into the future. The past four years have been blissful ones for us, but we know that this realm of splendidness must come to an end. So, to our friends and teachers, who so ar- dently paved our course and led us in the right direction, and particularly to Hazle Township High School, we, the Seniors of the Class of 1960, say, Adieuf' Our association has been a happy one. 4 Val . ,MARX XX W ill X X , ' X' l - R , lt . It was on this day that the people of Sybert and 17th streets and the inhabitants of the woods near St. Stanislaus Held knew that there would be no peace and quiet until November, for the H.T.H.S. football players had begun their daily work-outs. The groans of weary gridders and cries of football spirit kept up for three long months without rest. In Berwick we were defeated 34-0, Hazleton won Leo 'Levush Glod by 49-7, McAdoo won 13-6, and West Hazleton ended up on top 38-6. But the Shippers had a different cry on Oct. 26 when they came home on the victorious side of a 13-6 football contest with a favored Kulpmont team. And at Coaldale the Shippers yielded their same cry when they won by the same score of 13-6. And as the sun set in the west on Oct. 30th, two lonely figures made their final journey up 17th street and into the H.T.H.S. locker room.
