TRAT WILLIAM T. HELLINGS A. B., M.A. High School Principal JOSEPH GENEROSE Board Member WALTER YAMULLA Board Member VINCENT M. BOYLE B.S. Vice-Principal High School MICHAEL HARASCAK Board Member Our Administrators Although our years number not many, we are cogni- zant of a certain conspiracy against bodies politic in general. The attitudes of people toward them are cyni- cal. Without provocation they are maligned by well- intentioned but ill-informed persons. Politics is not an invidious system. Politicians, of necessity, are not cranks. The word politics is of Greek origin, P-O-L-I-S meaning citizen. The original meaning of politics bore the connotation of citizen-participation in government. The implication was that they who gov- erned were the elite, the intellectuals, the philosophers, all men of the greatest integrity. Today politics has acquired an antithetical meaning. Peoples minds are filled with antipathy and scream epigrams and vituper- ate against every man who indicates an intention to run for a public office. As a result a man is branded before he attains his position. Since our politics appear to operate in reverse we discourage the better candidates. Frequently, then, we do find men in office whose phil- osophy of life is unstable and thus vaccilate for the sake of gaining hnancial, social, or political prestige in the name of unwholesome expediency. As we see it, those men who are functioning as offi- cials in our school government are comparable to the early Grecian politician-each man honorable, of un- questionable integrity determined to serve his community to the utmost of his ability. Long will we remember your successful effort to pre- serve the identity of OUR Hazle Township School District. May Township forever have at its helm men as capable and worthy of public trust as you who now occupy the chairs of authority.
