HAZEN CROSS CCJUNTRY ANOTHER WINNING SEASCJN CTop Row, L to RJ: John Rathjer, Theresa Goeddeke, Alan Wright, Mark Johnson, Bruce Underwood, Bob Brunette, Jeff Skinner, Doug Beck, Matt Velasquez, Andy Krois, Tom Jackson, Paul Keire, greg Livengood, Eric Ryba. Middle Row: Mitsi McAllister, Sheelagh Hunt, Denise Plumb, Shaun Pratt, Jim England, Joanne Wills, Danielle Woelk, Cathy Goeddeke. Coach Kurle. Bottom Row: Jill Rider, Mel Ward, Diane Rademacher, Anne Marie Meredith, Michelle Pratt, Marie Ainardi, Mary Vandermay, Stephanie Hines. When the 1981-82 cross country season started, the Hazen runners ' had a few hopes for the outcome of the season. The boys' team, a perennial power and the defending NPSL champs, hoped to continue the tradition while the girls' team hoped to start a powerful traditon of their own. The boys fought adversity through most ofthe season as they finished the regular season with a 5-4 record. The girls, during the regular season, found little if any adversity as they broke Kennedy's girls' cross country dominance as they beat the Lancers and finished the regular season in a tie for 1st place. When the boys' and girls' teams went to the NPSL meet both were predicted to do well. With the impressive regular season record the girls were picked to finish no worse than 3rd but injuries allowed only a 4th place finish. The boys, led by Paul Keire's 6th place finish, took Ord place and like the girls advanced tothe WCD meet. At the WCD meet both teams had a tough time as unexpected illness to Cathy and Theresa Goeddeke caused them to drop out and with them the girls' team's state meet hopes. Though neither team qualified for the state meet the boys' team succeeded in keeping up the winning tradition and the girls' team began their quest as a cross country power.
