Brown's primary receivers were: Tony Coe, 2nd in the league in receptions: Pete Dohrn, 4th in the league in receptions: and the deep threat Pat Nangle who averaged 17.5 yds per reception. In the backfield Hazen boast- ed 3 excellent running backs led by Desmond Petty's 6.63 yds per carry followed by John Van Geystel's 6.55 yds per carry and Marcus Wroten's 4.5 yds per carry. Using a balanced offense and a tough defense the Highland- ers came within one game of making the playoffs. In the Homecoming game against the Kent Meridian Royals Hazen was battling for a division title but a last second defeat cost them the title and a playoff berth.
