The team steadily improved all season long. Shannon Just took home All-State honors for placing 12th in the state meet at Grand Forks. Maggie Abe paced the girls with a 28th place finish at state. Susan Krause opened the season with a first place finish at Dickinson. The boys had a ninth place finish at State. The following awards were given: Green Machine-Shannon Just; Most Improved Runner-Brett Miller; Hardest Worker Awards-Maggie Abe and Craig Steffan. Friday was the traditional Green and White Day and the again renamed Freshman Sophomore Day. Meier, Coach Kukuk The 87-88 wrestling season went as well as Coach Kukuk expected it to. The team can improve a bit next year with a lot of hard work. This year they had young people in starting spots and those people have improved with experience. They also had one weight class open all year which hurt them in duels and in tournaments. They were coached by Patty Schnabel and Kyle Regynski. The team performed for the Homecoming football game, Mandan Round Robin Tournament, St. Mary's Holiday Tournament home basketball games, and the boys' district basketball games at Beulah. On January 29 the Highlights traveled to Jamestown for the North Dakota Association of Dance and Drill Team Competition. In the Class B Division they placed 2nd in the novelty category with a routine to the song Wipeout, and also won 1st place in the dance drill category with a fast-paced rock'n'roll medley routine. The Highlights ended the season by performing their championship routine at the Class B State Boys' Basketball Tournament at the Bismarck Civic Center March 18. DRAMA Top: K. Radke, Mrs. Regynski, A. They also toured La Cathi-drale de St. Boneface, le Mus'ee des soeuis grises, ate lunch at La Vieille Care, visityed the museum of man and nature, and saw Hail, Columbia at the 3-story Imax Theater in Poitage Place in Winnipeg. During the year, they earned money for their trip by selling hot dogs and sloppy joes at the boys basketball games. They celebrated Le Reveillon at Christmas and Mardi Gras. For Mardi Gras they learned how to cook crepes, the traditional Mardi Gras dish. They concluded the year with a French production of La Blanche neige et Les Sept nains and their own version of La Roule de la Fortune avec M.
