Text from Pages 1 - 58 of the 1967 volume:

This yearbook, which is the written and pictorial history of Hazen Public School's 1966-1967 school year, is dedicated to Superintendent R. S. Bishop. Mr. Bishop resigned at the mid-term of his tenth year at Hazen to accept a position in the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction. Under Mr. Bishop's Leadership our school saw improvement in all segments of school life. Most important the academic atmosphere became one which the students could be proud of when they went on to higher levels of education and into the world of work. Many students have, and will say, Thank you, Mr. Bishop, for providing me with the opportunity to see the advantages of an education. It can be said that Hazen Public School and the community of Hazen have received many benefits by having both Mr. Bishop and his charming wife Alice, among us. 2 OUT OF THE HARBOR FIRST ROW: MATHEW CHRISTIAN SCHWARZ---Senior Class President AUDREY MAE BOEHLER-----Treasurer, Valedictorian STEVEN KENNETH CHASE—-Secretary SECOND ROW: LYNETTE PEARL ZILSDORF----Salutatorian PATRICK ALYN DONOVAN-—Vice-President THIRD ROW: PAULETTE JEAN WEISER HAZEN DRUG STORE 4 FIRST ROW: TIMOTHY MARK ERVIN CHRISTINA WILHELMINA CUENTHNER TIMOTHY RYAN KRAUSE SECOND ROW: BARRY LEWIS VOELTZ DEBORAH SHARON JOHNSON THIRD ROW: KAREN KAYHINTZ CHARLES EDWARD PECK MONTANA-DAKOTA UTILITIES COMPANY FIRST ROW: MYRON HAROLD NETZER ROSETTA BERTHA GOETZ BRUCE ALLYN DRATH SECOND ROW: LANA LOUISE SAILER ROGER LOREN FORD THIRD ROW: DONALD OTHMER ISAAK CONNIE MAY HEINE HAZEN LUMBER COMPANY FIRST ROW: NELDA YVONNE ALLEN ROBERT JAMES BARGMANN SECOND ROW: LONNIE R. The new Queen began her reign by leading a cheering student body in a snakedance through downtown Hazen. The bonfire was set off by the Queen, and the customary cheers and faculty speeches followed. The next day dawned crisp and clear, with only one thought in everyone's mind; BEAT RIVERDALE. The team responded with a stirring victory which had all viewers cheering them on. The delightful twenty four hours ended with a dance in the school auditorium. The Royal Court The Queen is Crowned BANNER TEAR FOR THE BISON FRONT ROW: B. Baisch, M. Netzer, T. Ervin, P. Donavon, B. Hazen, this year, reinstated its claim of being a perennial powerhouse in The Missouri Basin Conference. Eight seniors, led by their co-captains, Barry Voeltz and Steve Chase, (pictured at right) formed the bulwark of the attack. The Bison rambled through their first eight opponents without any difficulty. On the last day of the season, when injuries had eaten away the inner core of the team, Washburn's Cardinals journeyed to Hazen to determine the conference champion. With two minutes left in the game, the outcome was still undetermined; then disaster struck in the form of an intercepted pass. The Bison had lost, but could still claim a lion's share of the co-championship they won, because of their effort, determination and the fine traits of citizenship which they displayed in winning or losing. 27 Barry Voeltz Myron Netzer Pat Donavon Tim Ervin Senior Gridders The eight seniors pictured individually on this page have played their last game for Two Bison tacklers bring down a Ganrison runner. the familiar green and white. The Junior Bison, with freshmen starting for the first time in years, had their ups and downs. In the annual Halliday B tournament, the team lost its opener to Halliday, but came back strong to crush Stanton in the battle for third place.
