Mr. Thomas Purdy, always there with a smiling face, even if you are in trouble for skipping classes. If you’ve ever gotten sick or had to go home for some reason, he was always there to help you out. Mr. Purdy has involved himself with Hazel Park High School since he came here in 1955. Starting as a social science teacher, he then moved on to teach biology. In 1963, he became Assistant Principal in charge of attendance. From 1955 until 1962, Mr. Purdy coached varsity football with Mr. Tom Krupa and Mr. Chuck Skinner. In 1957 the football team went undefeated for the first time in Hazel Park High School’s history. Not only did Mr. Purdy coach football, but he also coached tennis from 1955 until 1966. In 1963, the tennis team went undefeated and won the first annual Oakland County Tennis Tournament. He is still a tennis enthusiast, and often helps both the boys and girls tennis teams with practice. For all your extra work and dedication, for times when you went beyond your call of duty, for your easy-going nature which makes it so easy to walk into your office with a problem, the 1980 Viking yearbook staff dedicates the 46th edition of the Viking yearbook to Mr. Thomas Purdy, THANK-YOU! ii
