Yes, it has been twenty-five years since that fifth day of January, 1930, when you were officially dedicated, that the architects, Burrowes and Eurich, first planned and thought about you. During these years many students have passed through your halls, sharing the joys and experiences of high school. And many happy returns--may you continue to serve and educate the people of this area for many years to come. .5- Y ,.44lL.4 7 I , . .x.:v,,,W, ' . , -Q. iw- . , . 1 l l PZ 1? Probably the most responsible person for your yearbook is the editor-in-chief, Marlene Reichert. It's impossible to tell you how hard she worked in directing the staff through the year. There were many long hours after school and in the evenings, Satur- day mornings and vacation days, when Mar- lene devoted her time to producing the book. She did a magnificent job, and I, as well as the staff, congratulate her. A good job well done, Marlene . . . These are the people to whom you should give all the credit for the production of the 1955 VIKING, for I did very littleg however, I think I received the greatest re- ward, because I had the opportunity to be associated with such a grand group of students. During the year Ihave grown to respect and admire them, and I feel that the past has served only to cultivate a lasting friendship with them. You should be very proud of them. .g5. Q-Zfom fge .xdcluiaor . . Hello! My name is Louis Silvasi, and I'm the advisor to the 1955 VIKING staff. This is really the only part of the book in which I have taken a direct part. I felt that I should introduce the students who have made this book possible, and so, if you will follow through this and the next page - here is the 1955 VIKING staff!! . . . . . . it's hard to single out individuals be- cause the staff worked a-s a team, but the managing editor, Anita Buccino, and ad- vertising manager, Richard Campana, both were indispensable. Anita was the right hand gal, while Richard got the money to pay for most of the yearbook. . . f w t editor, Sue Wuuiingliu 23112765 get , , . 21' 3.11 , to hanilinghfhfiiz it mzais, lust by nigga swell W01'kerg12 Wie needed O11 the le 7 in and helped u ' Wh? He was with us from start to finish. . . . standing in the back are uenmb ww W-- Cliff Harlick, with Lola Mauch and Bartiara - - A11 1 can say 15 that mes? our Lowe, sitting. I think they have a few gray hairs, but they did the job. Ray Chase and Bill Felkner. . . . . . every office staff must- have someone who is always there, ready and willing to take on the many menial jobs that must be taken care of. We had just that person in Carol KI called her Cookie J Cook, on the left. Gail Juhasz, on Caro1's left, showed up when we were in need for someone reliable to handle the undergrad- uate photography. We called, Gail answered. She was our girl Fri- day . . . . . . although their pictures are not included, there were many others who pitched in at various times. Dorothy Ford, was with us through the year, but happened to be sick when these pictures were taken. She worked very conscientiously with the regular staff. Others whom we would like to mention are Ron and Don Marchionni, Bar- bara Wells, Mike Folvarski, Larry Crisp, Pat Schwartz, Allen Krenn, and the many people who helped collect subscriptions and ads. Wise, Kenneth His size is small, but his might is big. Miss Gertrude Cook DVISORS Mr. Charles Stafford . 36 . We, the Seniors of Hazel Park High School, leave looking back on our years in this fine school. Our class was the last to complete the 8B in this high school. For the 8A we were sent back to Lacey, which had been changed to a junior high school. The following semester we returned to high school with an enrollment of 110, but now, as we leave, we have a small total of 37. Our Student Council representative in the 9th grade was Mary Laughlin. Advisors for that semester were Mr. Empson, Mr. Moore, and Miss Fink. Voted as king and queen of our class were Tom Alred and Shirley Holder. After a hard struggle through the halls and classes we entered the 10th grade to which we all looked forward with great excitement. As 10th graders, we elected the following officers: President, Jerry Sell, Vice President, Wanda Ferguson, Secretary, Billie Edgerton, Treasurer, Milene Endricks. Our Student Council representatives were Connie Short, and Mary Laughlin. Our class advisors for the 10th grade were Miss Fink and Mr. Moore. Voted as king and queen were Jerry Sell and Mary Laughlin. In our junior year we elected new class officers, who were Wanda Ferguson, President, Billie Edgerton, Vice President, Carol Smith, Secretary, Barbara Gephart, Treasurer. Our advisors were Miss Cook and Mr. Stafford. Student Council representatives for this semester were: Jeanette Nahra, Clifford Harlick, and Randy Riley. As 11th graders, we sponsored the Sadie Hawkins Day Dance and the January Prom. The Sadie Hawkins Day Dance was held in our gym with the decorations to fit the occasion. The Prom was a large task for a class as small as ours, but it went off smoothly. It was held at Botsford Inn, with the music of Sonny Block and his orchestra. Our king and queen for the 11th grade were Mary Beamer and Larry Chaney. Finally came the 12th grade. We were now fully pledged seniors and very proud ones at that. Voted as our class officers were Billie Edgerton, President, Leonard Vincent, Vice President, Carol Smith, Secretary, Barbara Gephart, Treasurer. - Elected for Student Council were Randy Riley Cwho became president of Student Councill, Clifford Harlick, Hildegard Schuchardt, and Jeanette Nahra. As our advisors we voted for Mr. Stafford and Miss Cook. Our king and queen were Jerry Sell and Carol Smith. We were all happy to welcome Barbara Jarvey to our class during our last semester of school. A new dance was introduced to the school by our class. It was given November 23, 1954, by our class. The dance was called a Sock Hop, which turned out to be very successful for a new kind of dance. During our final semester, we were very proud to have five boys in our class elected to attend Boys State. Theywere Randy Riley, Bob Sanders, Wesley Boshell, Albert Sanson, and Leonard Vincent. For our participants in sports clubs we had these people. Football: Bob Sanders, Jerry Sell, Ken Wise, Al Sanson, Doug Porter, Wesley Boshell, Bill Koester, Clifford Harlick, Leonard Vincent, Tom Pratt and Walter Toepher. Track: Doug Porter, Ken Wise, Jerry Sell, Leonard Vincent, Al Sanson, Clifford Harlick, Mickey Conway, and Wesley Boshell. Basketball: J erry Sell and Leonard Vincent. Wrestling: Ken Wise, Tom Pratt, Ken Gordon, Al Sanson, Wesley Boshell, and Randy Riley. Tennis: Joe Smith and Randy Riley. Varsity Club: Randy Riley, Ken Wise, Al Sanson, Walt Toepfer, Bob Sanders, Jerry Sell, Doug Porter, and Leonard Vincent. G.A.A.: Loretta Combs, Billie Edgerton, Barbara Gephart, Carol Smith, Jeanette Nahra, and Hildegard Schuchardt. M In the Honor Society we had: Hildegard Schuchardt, Jeanette Nahra, Bob Sanders, and Carolyn Stephens. Hildegard Schuchardt, and Lura Lafler were participants in the Swan Club. ' We will never forget the class trip, which took place from May 30 through June 1. We left Detroit by boat and went to Mackinac Island, AND then on to Chicago. We returned on a Tuesday evening tired but pleased with our trip. Another event which really had us jumping and shouting was when we beat Port Huron and took the E.M.L. football championship title. Our Senior Banquet was held January 19, 1955, at the Hazel Park Lutheran Church. The January Junior Senior Prom was held in the Colonnade Room at the Masonic Temple on the Friday evening of January 21, 1955. 2 Now we sit here on this stage thinking back on all the fine and wonderful times we have had at the dances, sport activities, and in the halls. We now look into the future with our motto---TODAY WE FOLLOW, TOMORROW WE LEAD. By Lura Lafler, Clifford Harlick, Bob Sanders, Virginia Taylor - - 37 - 363010 M698 4 Wiki ..Q. .' We entered high school with the thought of what would lie ahead.
