Every member serx es on a standino commit- tee holding separate meetings at least once a vteele to take care of the business coming under its jurisdiction. Standing committees of the Student Council are the Hall, hlcmbership, Assemblx Building and Crounds Point, Clearing House, Social and the Executive Board. Bevular meetin0s of the Council are held exery Friday and are conducted according to Parliamentary Law. Committee reports are given, and revular business is attended to. The Student Council gave a Christmas Dance and an all hivh school dance May 8. It took care of contributions to the Community Fund War Relief Drixe, and the Buy a Bomber Fund. The two primary aims of the club 'ire to give experience in all phases of dramatic production to interested students and to present whole- some entertainment for other students and pa- tron: of the school. hlembership in the club is open to all high school students vsho h'ue earned one point by working on a play. It is by this system of points also that letters are awarded at the end of each semester. The club is responsible for 'all dramatic pro- ductions in the hi h school but any student may participate in the 'ictivities imolxed in '1 dramatic production. Under the direction of Mr. Carruth five plays hare been presented durinv this school year. The paper, containing school news, comments on extra-curricular activities, interviews with noted people. and com- ments on world affairs, is published ap- proximately every three weeks during the school year. A chapter of the National llonorary High School journalists' Society. Quill and Scroll, was established in Hazel Park in 1939. The Hazel Parker is a member of the National Scholastic Press Association, and also the Michigan ln' terscholastic Press Association. The purpose of the Hazel Parker is to present an unbiased chronicle of student activities and interestsg to use the influence of the paper in perpetuat- ing the highest ideals and standardsg to encourage scholarship and sportsman- shipg to promote school spirit: to sustain unity between student opinion and ad- ministrative policies: to cooperate with the administration and faculty in every way. Delegates are sent to the convenf tions of high school journalists, held each year in various cities. Social events also include staff activi- tics, parties, and an all-school Annual Sweater Dance. Hazel Park was the leader of the league from the third debate until the last winning five debates con- secutixely only to lose to Ferndale at the end of the season and later lose the play off. The team entered into twenty-eight debates both practice and tournament which is more than any other Hazel Park team has attempted. The season started viith Hazel Park debating aflirmatix ely and xictoriously over Denby Cenf tral, and Western. The Hrst vias at our high school and the last mo on a Saturday at Wax ne University. At this point we changed sides and won very close struggles from Southeastern Page forty there and Mackenzie ClVlichi0an State Cham- pions last year here. Our hopes were now hi h for an undefeated season with a xictory oser Ferndale. The def cision was for our opponents and there was a three-may tie. In practice debates the team met such schools a' Jackson Van Dyke Centerline Pontiac and Bay City. The team members received medals from Way ne Uim ersity and pins from the Free Press. The school shares a cup for second place vxith Hamtramck. It received its second consecutive plaque from the Free Press and Michigan High School Forensic Association. Those on the staff help mend the books and keep 21 record of the books circulating among the students. They are capable of using the files and have a knowledge of the numerical order of the books. Containing a wide variety of ma- terial, the library is very helpful to both students and faculty. The number of volumes has now increased to 4300. The money obtained from the collection of fines is used to purchase new books.
