' - at I In August 1941, it was announced to the Brave Chief Lowery Rains that some young warriors were stranded on his shores. After sending his representative to investigate the invaders on his territory, they reported that each brought a trophy of the past chase in the form of a promotion card. It was a rugged country in which this new tribe found themselves. They became discouraged and wished they had never come. On the whole the outlook was gloomy. Big Chief Rains said this tribe must be named. After much deliberation they were called Freshmen , which being interpreted means, new and green. They were often late for classes which caused their chieftain great concern lest he had accepted a tribe too wild to train. Big Chief realized this newly invaded tribe needed a wise counselor so he placed them in the custody of Carman Parks who immediately helped them organize their class with Gene Orr Miller elected as president. , At the end of the Freshman year a terrible massacre took place. Some strange creatures called Algebra, English, History, Home Economics and Agriculture examina- tions confronted the tribe. They had to be conquered before the class could go to the next hunting ground. A fierce battle ensued at which time a few members of the tribe were injured, but a large majority was successful in marching bravely to the Sophomore Class. August 1942 found us again organized with a new Big Chief F. H. Spiceland. We then became more serious as Sophomores for we were learning the fundamental things of the Hunting Ground. Again organized under the capable leadership of Carman Parks, we e-lected Fred Paschall, Jr. as president. This time we added some new mem- bers to our tribe and again we had to face the problems of Algebra, English, History, Home Economics and Agriculture. During this term we lost seven of our tribe although we gained three new members. 1943: Again came August and time for the class to invade a new territory. With the name of Juniors bestowed upon us we entered with all the self-confidence and pride which the name implies. In checking over the warriors it was found that one of our most faithful members, Bobby Gene Cochran had gone into military service We welcomed a new one to our ranks Gene Dale Ray who was elected president. With Buford Hurt as our new Big,Chief and Mrs. Estelle Erwin our sponsor we started out for a successful year. Even though we had to struggle hard through Commercial Law History exams and other tough subjects we came out with more determination than ever. One of the outstanding events of the year was the Crowning of the Queen Miss Hazel High School who was Leta Grey Brandon from the Junior Class. Then came the problem of entertainment for the Seniors. After much discussion pro and con we decided to entertain them by taking them to Mammoth Cave Kentucky. During this term another one of our tribe decided the Navy was the best place for him so off to the service went James Steel. Our success in conquering the final examinations gave us full admittance into the last section of Big Chiefs Hunting Ground which is called Senior. As full fl-dged Seniors we entered the new territory with self-assurance. As we marched forward to invade and conquer the section of the hunting ground our days of training were nearing an end. The lower tribes were impressed by our wisdom and bravery. The chieftain who did so much toward our final su cess was Mrs. Geraldine Myers. Much care and thought were exerted in the selection of our class officers for this final conquest of graduation. For a very capable president we selected Gwyn Dailey with Fred Paschall Jr. vice president' Mickey Jones secretary' Gene Dale Ray treasurer' and Leta Grey Brandon as reporter to lead our class successfully. Not only were we trained in methods of modern warfare but in business and ath- letics as well. Eight of the first ten basketball boys including the manager captain and cheerleaders are from the Senior Class. Again one of our most outstanding social events of the year was the crowning of the Queen. As in the Junior year the winner of the popularity contest was Miss Leta Grey Brandon. Early in the y-ar plans for a great celebxtion called Commencement were being laid. This was to be the crowning event of the four years in the Hunting Ground. Speeches were to be made plays were to oe given and other forms of festivities to be enjoyed. All trophies of the class are to be gathered tog-ther and those offering h most worthy are to receixe a reward in the form of a cer1:ain type of sheepskin called Diploma.
