LIFE AT I-IAZEL GREEN While I tell you about Hazel Green just mmagme yourself a student in this beautiful academy where the faculty and students work and play to getherluke one bug happy family I have had the opportumty to visit several school wxth dorm1tor1es and I wouldn t exchange Hazel Green for any of them You ve probably heard the old saymg I don t care what or how you call me just so you call me three times a day I can t think of a more pleasant way to be called than by the old dmner bell which stands at the southwest corner of the girls dormitory It peals out loudly at six o clock eve ry morning Txme to get up and again at six thirty to mvnte us into dining room after hurried Good mornings to a nourishing breakfast After breakfast the work IS shared and yes enjoyed by the scholar ship students who receive their board for the services they render the school When the dlshes are done and our rooms spic and span it 15 then time for school At roll call everyone is in high spirits glad of the opportunity so many people long to have Forty five minute classes fill the day from eight o clock untnl three but the old bell breaks the monotony at twleve o clock for our week we have chapel exerc1se, two days a week Buble classes and on Fridays Glee Club In the afternoon the boys entertain themselves playing basketball whlle the girls are free to do as they wish after certam chores have been done Twice a month the majority of the girls attend the meetings of the Girl Re serves Then supper study hall and the day ns over for our fam1ly Such ls a typical day on the h1ll Yet this could never give you a com plete picture of our life together For while xt IS true that study hall is a nightly feature Mondays through Fridays two of those nights are set asude for actwxtxes m the gymnaslum Wednesday the advanced folk dancmg group enjoys an evening of fun and relaxation while preparmg for the various folk festwals which they attend Thursday the girls meet for basketball and volley ball And on Friday durlng the the basketball season practically all the group will be cheering the boys on to victory Saturday mghts our books are put a way and the gymnasxum again provides a place for our entertainment or we may enjoy table games in the girls dormitory On Sunday we attend Sunday School and church and then after a hearty dinner you may find us making fudge or popping corn ln the kitchen ente rtam ing a boy friend 'UI the parlor, or when the weather permits v1s1t1ng some near by scemc spot We end the day as we began it 1n worship and se rvlce through our jumor and senior youth fellowship groups ' . To keep us mindful of those less fortunate than ourselves we sent CARE packages from time to time It is our plan to send one each month durnng the remamder of thus school year This IS possible when each student in school contnbutes ten cents for each package We have a hospital on our campus and even though lt tsn t every week that one of us must go to the hospital for an appendectomy we are grateful for the relief given there for sore throats cut fmgers spramed ankles and and stomach ache Throughout the year we have special events and entertainments of var1ous kmds To mention a few the big Halloween party ln the gymnasium when everyone IS someone else and each class sponsors a stunt wlth a prlze for the best one the Chrlstmas dinner and party for the dormitory boys and gurls the Christmas program with music by the Glee Club and glfts to youth fellowship meets ball games vocatlonal conferences and the annual trip of the senlors to Mammoth Cave slelgh rtdmg when the weatherman favors us with snow May Day with its clean up prog ram in the morning and contests In the afternoon recltals and concerts glven by the music students and the Glee Club the Junior play the senior play and the sen1or dinner and at the close of the year our commencement program when another group leaves our campus carrying wlth them the thought Alma Mater clasp us still Parting now shall work no 111 Day by day 001' hearts lmplore To love thee more 1 P and M S . . , . , . for every student in schoolg class parties in the fall and springg special trips
