AS TWO BOYS SEE THE SOPHOMORES It has been a long time in one way wh1le in another way it was only yesterday smce july 1937 when a small group of boys and gurls gathered at the Hazel Green Public School to be enrolled in the primer Down through the years from 37 until 47 many Jomed our class and many dropped out because of their health or the1r famlly movmg and other reasons But ln spite of that eight students stayed together u,nt1l the seventh grade here at Hazel Green Academy 1n 1943 In September 1943 we the members of the seventh grade elected Mrs Arch johnson as our sponsor and enjoyed a very happy year under her direction The next year we re elected her as our sponsor for the eighth grade In September of 1946 we elected Mrs james Hollon jr as sponsor and had a very good year wh1le green freshmen At the first of our sophomore year m 47 we elected Mr and Mrs Robert Shemwell as our sponsors Mr and Mrs Shemwell have made excell ent sponsors this semester and we feel that they w1ll strive to make the followmg semester a great success also Mr and Mrs Shemwell gave us a party m their apartment at Christmas Everyone of us present had a very nice tlme We wish to thank all faculty members who have served as our sponsors here at Hazel Green Academy feel proud of being sxlly sophomores In the sophomore class there w11l st11l remam four boys and one girl who started m the prlmer on the same day m 1937 and who have remamed to gether smce that day R B Of the fourteen boys and girls now m the sophomore class ftve have been together smce the begmmng of school days Through the years some have dropped out of the class but others have taken the1r places As I look back over some of the experiences of the class from year to year I recall with pleasure some of the good times we have had together at class parties folk dancmg and ball games Several of our boys have been llsted among the best on the basketball team But don t thmk for a moment we have been lwmg a lmfe of ease all of the way through school We mastered science Latin and math Though sometimes mcurrmg our teacher s wrath We fought with Enghsh History and more just to reach the sophomore door We worked ourselves from tip to toe To get through the Freshman year you know We ve worked our bralns both mght and day To make the future come our way Keep your eye on the rlsmg sophomores J . . , . . .
