A Salute to Supt. G M. Be Mr. Bell has been a school toachor in tho State of Missouri for ovor 40 yoars. Ho has sorvod os a school super» intendent for 33 years—the post 16 yoars as Suporintondent of the Hayti Schools. He has a Master of Education degree from tho University of Missouri and is highly considered throughout the State in the field of Education and Educational Administration. Ho served as Chairman of tho County Committee for tho two most important Referendum Elections for the benefit of Public Schools hold in Missouri in recent years: 1—A Constitutional change for the district to raise the tax for Bonding Purposes from 5 per cent to 10 per cent; and, 2—the Foundation Program for tho public schools in 1955 to increase State aid for School Districts. Ho has sorvod two terms as President of Pemiscot High School Association. Ho has sorvod as President of Southeast Missouri School Administrators. Ho has served as President of Missouri Association of School Administrators. Ho was elected to Phi Delta Kappa, an Honorary Fraternity, at the University of Missouri In the field of Educo» tional Administration. At the present time Mr. Bell serves on the County Committee appointed for the purpose of planning a Technical Trade School for Pemiscot County. He has served on numerous committees and made many talks throughout the State on School Finance and better education. Mr. Bell is also on octlve citizen in Hayti. He is a Mason and a Lion and has served as Secretary of the Hayti Lions Club since February 1945. He is Boy Scout Troop 95' Flnonce Chairman. He received special recognition from the Hayti Lions Club for his service to their organization. He is a member of the Hayti Methodist Church and has taught the Men's Bible Class for the past 12 years. Under his supervision, our local school district hos operated efficiently while having one of the lowest tax rates in this area. The Hayti School Distric has constructed the following buildings: three gymnasiums; one bus barn; two vocational agriculture buildings; 37 classrooms-o total building program of over one half million dollors. Yet the Hayti school district financial condition is In excellent shape whereas other schools in oi county having a 50 par cent larger tax rote have been operating with varying degrees of financial stress. Mr. Ball was recently chosen Man of the Yoor In Hayti. We wish to salute Mr. Ball upon his ratiramant for his untiring efforts during his 40 years in School work. -THE I960 COUNCIL STAFF
