Enrollment is normally limited to three students per class period. These students learn to be effective users of the library by becoming experienced with the Various materials and equipment. They also render a valuable service by performing numerous tasks and giving cheerful assistance to fellow students. ' LIBRARY CLUB The Library Club is an organization committed to service to the library. Activities of the club are aimed at the promotion and improvement of the library program. This year's activities included a book fair, book ex- hibits, displays, bulletin boards, William Allen White Book Award, and fund raising projects. Each year the club finances a special project for the library. SEVENTH GRADESCIENCE CL UB FRONT ROW: Dava Ridgeway, Pamela Reece, Paula Werner, Sharon Stevens, Debra Yount, Pamela Stephens, Theresa Smith, Robin Fetterolf, janet Tasker, Louise Taylor, Shirley Konkel, SECOND ROW: Mr. VanEtten, Ronnie Martin, Terry Sprout, Steve McFeeters, David Gulick, Max Fishback, Lyle Noordhoek, jerry Sprout, Brian Beck, Farrell McClintock, Steve Chilcote, Charles Flickinger, Mrs. Winters. Science Club is an honorary organization. The members are chosen on the basis of a high grade point average in all classes as well as an outstanding interest in science. All members of the club compete in the annual Dist- rict Science Fair, which was held this year in the gym March 12 and 13. Those students who submitted projects that earned blue ribbons at the district, went on to competition in the Regional Science Fair in Wichita. The club also took several fieldtrips during the year to places such as Wesley Medical Center, the planetarium at Hutchinson, and Veterinary Day at Kansas State University in Manhattan. Seventh grade members are chosen to join at the end of the first nine weeks. This year new seventh grade members were honored by a Welcoming Party. A picnic in the spring concluded the years social activities for the group. The junior High Band offers the student a lab- oratory in which to per- form on a woodwind, brass, V f , or percussion instrument. The excellence they at- tain is determined some- what by the amount of effort put forth by each student and by the group as a Whole. The band serves the school by per- forming in parades in the community and by per- forming at athletic events. The band is di- vided into three sections: saxophone, trombone and trumpet, and rhythm. The stage band plays for in- termission at some of the athletic events here at the school and one concert in the spring. The stage band rehearses on Tuesday and Thursday evenings after school. STA GEBAND 5-i5ivf'e 7' '77 T The orchestra gives the students a chance to par- ticipate in what has been called the highest form of musical expression. ln this organization we combine the forceful and driving brass and Woodwinds with the heart of the or- chestra, the strings. The orchestra meets during the fourth hour five times a Week. Throughout the year it gives at least three or four concerts. Those students in the junior high who try out and do Well get to play in the Mid West Youth Symphony. Here they meet some of the prominent musicians of our day. 38
